Anyone know of a way to get these rusty things off ? I soaked them for a few days with PB Blaster which didn't help a bit.
Is the only solution to drill them out and get new ones? Drilling them out.......would that be too hot and ruin (expand?) the fender plastic & flap holes?
Hmmm, do they even sell these yet?

For problems like this I use vise grips, a vise and a impact driver. I put the vise grips on the nut, then lock the vise grips into the vise. I then use the impact driver on the head.
I have had pretty good luck removing them. I probably only break 1 out of 15-20 ( estimate ).

10-4 and thank you. I tried the vise grips but not the grips in vise with impact.
Will do! 1 out of 15 is good odds but with my luck I'll break all 3 !

I am glad it worked for you! It may sound redneck but it does work good!!
What plastic rivets are you talking about? Got a couple pictures? I will think up a solution as quick as I can. ;)

Well you can see them (one on each side) in the pic I posted but not close up enough to really get a understanding of exactly how they function.
I'll see if i can zoom in with out it getting blurry.

I've been here alot latley as I remove all flaps before I stow the fenders...I pb the fastener for a week then use a snap-on philips head in a 1/4" breaker bar and a big channel lock holding the nut...most surrender this way but if I round out the screw head I'll drill it out slowly being carful not to torque the plastic, but drilling takes way more time.
good luck!

As luck would have it I have a fender at the shop with these in it. I have a idea on what might work. But I want to try it out before explaining it. This way if it don't work then I am not describing bad information. ;)
I will try to go this later today when I head to the shop.

It sure seems to me that they are once and done. I can't imagine getting them out without ruining them.
If you idea does not work what kind of screws shall I use. Is there a special name or kind or I just simply get metric flathead jobs. I'd like some stainless steel jobs if I can find them. Guesss they don't have to be metric either but I'd prefer it.

The impact screwdriver and vicegrips work great, sometimes you have one good shot at it and thats your best shot. Just like stubborn case screws, you better get that bit deep in there and have a good hit at it the first time - along with a nice new impact phillips bit. I definately ruined a couple of SX fenders trying to drill them out but then I used a nice sharp drill bit and drilled slowly, a little at a time and had much better success. Those dam steel nuts are useless..
I made up a bunch of those rectangular 6mm threaded nuts on a mill and lathe out of aluminum and use stainless steel allen head screws, at least I'll be able to get them apart in the future....

I have an idea.........if you made them, why not make more and sell them, I will gladly be your 1st customer! Seriously, I'm sure you would sell quite alot of them on 3WW.
I'd still prefer flat head SS screws though so it's flush with fender. We'll call it the DC optional mud flap mount kit.
Hey  besides the front, that would also set the rear SX mud flaps off nicely with nice shiney SS screws showing.
Come on BUDDY, make us some up!!!!! :w00t: I love little details like that! :naughty:
Won't take NO for an answer...........When can I order them?
The SX, for front and rear, takes 11 of them, so sell them in dozen bags. How much ya wanna bet they sell BIG TIME? :beer
How many other Hondas use these also? Man, you might be able to quit your normal job!!

Huffa,
I'd love to make up a bunch for everyone. These inserts are 1 of about 15 items make myself for my ATC's trying to make things that will last longer and work better. Foot peg inserts, stainless fork spring spacers, aluminum wheel spacers, front axle spacers are just a few of them. Unfortunately I no longer work in a CNC (automated) machine shop and everything is made in a conventional mill and lathe and they take time. I just couldn't make them fast enough to make them inexpensive. When you spend a half hour making a 5$ part for yourself it's no big deal but making 50 of them is just too time consuming and I couldn't make them cheap.
What I can do, is share my ideas and somebody with the right equipment could make up a hundred of them for a fair price. The day of complete obsoletion is coming and at that point even hand making the parts we need will be the only solution. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to improve the few things that I can and use them on my trikes. It enables you to use 250R hubs with 200X axles and calipers and lots of other mods that wouldn't be as professional without the equipment I have...

I too spend the money if I want a OEM part. People all spend their money on different things and ATC parts give alot of us satisfaction. Nothing is more fun than opening a box filled with Honda bags!!
I use a button head SS allen head screw, the head isn't as large in diameter as the stocker but it's close and works well. Even those types of fastners are hard to find and I have to order at least 25 to get them. That with the aluminum insert allows me to get it apart years from now. Corrosion is the killer of all of our parts so I use stainless and aluminum along with lithium grease anywhere I can.
I had to buy a box of 100 count SS bolts for the 200X master cylinder resevoir mounts, probably cost me 15$ to get the 4 bolts I needed but there again, at least I can get them out... Maybe I'll sell the rest on EBAY.
