I have finally got my Big Red up and running again. I do a lot of riding that ends up after dark and I would like to have a brake light on my trike. Has anyone ever tried this before, I know it can be done but could someon eenlighten my on how to got about doing this? I am the only on eout riding without a brake light and I know it would be a whole lot safer with some of the folks I ride with.

The tail lights on a Big Red are two wire. This means they are just running lights.

You will have to get a switch that will operate via a spring off your brake levers or pedal. I suggest the pedal.

You might try mounting a seperate light you can wire direct to the battery through the switch.

Well... I didn't put it on, but there is a brake light on my Big Red. I will try and get some pics for you soon.

Thanks for the info. I guess I am mainly needing to know how it is wired up so it works with the brakes.

Here is a drawing I did in Paint.

It's kinda crude but maybe you can figure it out.

Your third wire is a running light. If you wire it like this it will run all the time.

Just use the ground wire and the brake wire which will be the brightest light of the two filiments in the light bulb.

You will have a brake light and you can use the exisiting tailights as running lights.

does anyone know the site where the banjo bolts for the brake lines have a switch built into them to activate a brake light?

just add another light that will come on when you stop. The second light will show stopping and you dont need to monkey with your running light.

Here's a write up I saved, I was thinking about adding a pair on my 4x4.

I can;t remeber what there called. but autozone/advanced/ pepboys carry little LED lights that are meant to be attached with double sided tap inside your head lights. it would prbable be pretty easy to stick some white ones inside the big red lenses and wire them to a switch. ill try to find a picture of what im talking about.

Thanks for the info guys. While we are on the subject, does any one have a good set of tail lights for sale, I am thinking of going to advanced and finding some that I can make work, any suggestions?

Well... here is the setup on mine. Sorry for the late post... been busy around here cleaning up the 3+ feet of snow for the last couple days.

Anywho... I didn't really check on how it is wired, but I assume it would be connected to the little wires out back that are used for accessories (at least I think that's what they're for)

There is a little "switch" that you can see in one of the pics that has a rod going to the end of the brake cables... kind of a crude setup... but seems to work fine.

Don't know too much about it... I'm guessing the original owner put it on to help make the trike road legal.

Sorry for the crappy pics... all the trikes and quads are packed into the sheds for the winter and are hard to get to.
