A friend of mine has a son that races gokarts in the Honda class and has a digital tachometer for a single cylinder 4 stroke motor. As far as I could tell, it had a pickup wire that attached to the plug wire and may have even been battery powered.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, where can they be found?

I really need to start looking before I throw these questions out there.
Found this (http://www.jackssmallengines.com/hour_meter.cfm) a few minutes after posting the question.

If you go to www.tinytach.com Look at their tachs. Thier normal ones update every 3 seconds, I THINK. and if I were to get one, it would be the commercial one which updates every half second. Its a little more expensive, but I think it would pay off, since its universal.
I want to get one eventually, but dont feel like dropping the money down for it right now.
If you decide to get one, let me know how it works.

I put it on my 350x and it matched what my hondaline tach read. Of course it is not digital. You can find those types in Northeren Hydralics, JC Whitney and sources like that.
If you would like the link to these I can send you what I put in for search wording. Many of them for sale and most under 60 bucks shipped.

I used to race karts, and I had a tach like the one you are describing. They are made by Digatron.

yeah I have one I added on last week. Has a wire that wraps ariund the plug then the cap goes on. The thing I couldnt figure out is there is also a ground wire but with that hooked up it kills the spark. they work good though.
I got mine off ebay for $50 shipped.
