I picked up a 85 TRI-Z this morning in a trade. I have had a few of these over the past couple of years. I am going to be fixing it up some. Does anyone one know of parts that will cross over? Mainly rear shocks right now. If I remember correctly, don't the warrior rear shocks fit the Z? How about the Banshee or Raptor? I have been told the warrior and Banshee rear shocks will cross, so does that mean that the rear shock from a Banshee will fit the Z.
How about axles and hubs. I was thinking of putting an extended axle in it? Will the Banshee or Warrior rear axles cross? Does any one know of any other type of parts that will cross. Bike runs good, just wanting to update some of the parts that cross...
I would post some pics, but apperently they are too big and I don't know how to make them smaller. Post any info you have. It has been a couple of years since I have owned one of these so I don't really remember much about them.
I am also in the market for a new set of yellow rear fenders, and a nice black airbox cover...

to resize the pic open it in Paint. Click ctrl+w and it will open the resizer. resize both options to 98% and save your pic. go into the folder where your pic is stored and hold your mouse over the pic you just edited. If it is smaller that 250kb your good to go for the upload. hope this helps

My front fender is new and the headlamp housing is still really nice. I have seen a few new OEM rears on ebay lately. I have seen some Maiers from mail order companies for $175-200. I don't care if they are OEM or aftermarket. My rear fenders are not cracked, but are faded pretty bad. They just stand out compared to the front. Does anyone know of any polish that works good on faded plastic?
The main reason I was wondering about the rear shock was to get some sort of aftermarket one. I weigh 235 and the stock shock that is on it feels kinda weak right now. I am sure it needs a recharge, but I heard the warrior shocks were a little stiffer. I thought with a nice aftermarket set up, the bike should handl pretty good.
I was curious about hubs for better wheel choices. It seems everyone makes stuff for Banshees.

i am about your size as well. i was running the warrior shock with great performance. but because i relocated my gas tank to the aix area. i was able to use a banshee shock. the banshee shock sits higher. i am also running a +2 swinger. so the banshee shock makes it stand nicely. i am also running banshee/warriror hubs. i owned both the banshee and warrior and had lots of extra wheels. the banshee axle i am using is +4 too so i have great stability. i just bought a new set of rear fenders for my Z. i will probably be selling my yellow maiers if your interested. but i need to get the new fenders first. they have the stickers on them as well. later

You can go with any aftermarket shock made for a Banshee provided it has a remote resevoir with hose, and not one where the resevoir is attached to the base of the shock. Yes, Ive heard of people altering tank mounts and moving its position and stuff like that, but Im not a guy who likes to reinvent the wheel when a bolt on replacement wheel is available. The Warrior spring is slightly stiffer, but I still frequently bottom mine out when MX racing with preload set at max, and I only weigh 175. If you trail ride, youll be fine with the Warrior shock, but if you do hardcore jumping Id recommend an aftermarket shock such as Works, that is setup for yur weight.
Banshee hubs will fit right on.

Are the fenders you are going to be selling the ones in the pic? How much and is there any cracks or breaks?

I don't do a lot of really big jumping yet. If I am riding MX, I will usually take my RM250 out. The 3 wheeler is mainly for recreational riding with family and running at the dunes and at the river.
I knew the hubs would fit, the axle was the main deal. I do want a wider axle. I noticed on ebay though, you have a better selection of Banshee wheels than you do the wheels for the Z or Blaster.

The stock axle on the Z is exactly the same as a stock Banshee axle. Ive had one on mine for a while, but am replacing it today with another stock Banshee one because it got bent at Sunset Ramblers do to a hit from a Flyin' Brian!

Nah, I didn't think that. They look awesome in the pics. I don't care about a few scratches and I see they are not faded in the pics. I just have nice plastic on the front, my shrouds are OK, but the rears are faded pretty bad. No breaks or cracks, but the fade on them brings the look of the bike down.
Definetly let me know on those fenders. Why are you replacing the Maiers? Are you just wanting to go with OEM?
nice z groundworx.a little advice.do not even try a banshee stock shock.it will not work.not in any easy fashion. by time you shim the gas tank enough to clear, the shock ressy, the rear plastic will not fit and needs to be cut around the gas cap.trust me i tried.as far as rear axle and hubs,if you want a cheap extension, get some older 300ex hubs and theY go right on the z and banshee axle. YOU WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THE HUB NUT WASHERS OFF THE AXLE, to get the bolts all the way on the axle to put the cotter pins in.plus they are offset like 1 an1/2 inches.then you can get honda wheels on there.that is what i did.i think over all width of mine in the rear is 51 inches. warrior rear axle will not fit the z carrier.but a blaster axle is the same as the banshee as far as after market.in other words a durablue blaster axle is the same as banshee.but the stock blaster axle is shorter than a banshee axle.sometimes you can get a nice durablue blaster axle off ebay cheap.g force has aftermarket banshee axles for 200 bucks, from rocky mountain atv.good luck

Thanks Moshman, I think I got the good end of the trade. I did notice today though that the gasket at the base of the cylinder is leaking pretty good so I will be putting new gaskets in the top end soon.
I thought that Banshee shock would take some modifying to get it on with the piggy back res. I was mainly thinking of an aftermarket shock with remote res. I have been keeping an eye on Ebay for one. If I go with a stock shock, I would probably just have mine redone or buy a warrior shock. I don't really think I will be doing a ton of big jumps on the Z. Like I said, when I feel like flyin, I get on my dirt bike.
I am looking at getting the rear spaced out some. I didn't really just want to go with spacers though. I watch ebay alot though. That is why I wanted to know what axles would fit. I thought I would try to pick up a used ext. axle.
Does anyone know if 250R or 400EX hubs will work on the Z. I would think that if the 300EX hubs would fit, these would too.

Groundworx,
Here is a post of mine on a buch of mods I did on the Z.It might be helpful.I went with billet banshe hubs and banshee rims.I love the extra width it gave me.I am going with the banshee rear shock because I don't have the gas tank under the seat anymore.I have also been told,Like the guys said above, that the '01 Raptor shock fits perfect only it is a little longer.2" I think????
I hope this link works.

Thanks 2Extreme. You got a lot of info on there that I didn't know. I have a couple of questions. Did stock Banshee hubs give you extra width or are they an aftermarket hub? And what did the Blaster boost bottle do? I also have the DG pipe on mine and I never thought of changing the bottle.

G,
I am not sure exactly how much width I gained, but I think about 2".That is with the hubs and the banshee wheels. Also when going to the Banshee 10" wheels your tire selection becomes enormous. The boost bottle I put on mine does the same as your stock one.I put this one on there,Because when I bought my Z the guy had the nipple on the intake boot plugged off.I had to buy one and mod it a little to make it work.My Z is torn down again:cry:  I am going through the top end and adding a 1986 Z bottom end so I can get 6th gear.I am also painting the frame, rads, and rad brackets.Should be cool when done.If you have any other questions, just ask.I also put the current model banshee rear carrier on mine.I will be making a big post about it over at www.Tri2Stroke.com

The 86 bottom end is something I have been considering too. Not only for the 6th gear, but I have heard that they are stronger than the 85 bottom end. Definetly keep me posted on your progress.
groundworx. 300 ex and 400ex hubs are the same. Problem is,that the hubs have to be slightly worn, cuz they fit the Z axle too tight. So, I would look for some like 96 300ex hubs. The 250 r hubs will not fit..Banshee hubs are not offset, once again stock width. So if ya want 3 inches extra width in the rear, get some older 300ex hubs. When I inquired about getting a z shock rebuilt,I was told they cant be rebuilt and last. They can be charged, but if the seals are bad,t hey are not rebuildable. That is what i was told.

I got the bottom end in.I think I am going to use my cases and use all of the '86 parts. These cases are pretty rough.I will let you know how it comes out.I also just got a banshee rear shock off of ebay.I will post pics of it installed.
Mosh,
I didn't realize that the seals were no longer available.I am glad I went with a banshee shock.

Does anyone know about a Raptor rear shock. I was looking on ebay earlier and I seen a couple of Raptor rear shocks with remote res. The line doesn't look like it is long enough to get the res. over to the frame to mount. I have hear that the Banshee and Raptor rear shocks cross so I would think this would work. Has anyone on here had any experience with the Raptor rear shock?

Ive got one, but havent tried to install it yet. Probably this weekend. Right off teh bat, its longer whcih could pose some problems. It may be too long.

That thought crossed my mind. I never owned a Banshee, but I did have a Raptor and the suspension had more travel than my 400EX. I wondered if it was longer.
