thanks. i just ordered a stator and flywheel. it is missing a few other parts but i have them on the way. the biggest problem is that i do not have a pipe or silencer. I am thinking of trying to fit a kx250 pipe. i had good luck making the cr500 pipe fit my 500r.

does anyone have any plastic to sell, i will even consider cracked stuff if it is presentable :D
thanks
chris

PS. i also picked up a kx500 in the deal

Glad to see another coming back to life!

But why waste time with a KX250 Pipe? Get a new DG pipe and silencer for it. You can get them from Dennis Kirk or James Lucky.

Be glad the right hand shroud is in as good a shape as it is. Even cracked right shrouds are going for ridiculous prices. Head light covers too. Hopefully you'll find someone that's never seen ebay. It shouldn't be any problem finding a front fender, rear fender, and left shroud. You can probably still get those pieces from Kawasaki. You could go with the new shiny maier front and rear fenders.

What year KX500 did you get? Do you mind checking to see if the KX500 frame will accept a Tecate Swingarm and triple clamps? I would like to know if the swingarm will just bolt up to the frame and engine. Not really worried about linkage. And on the triple tree if it will bolt to the frame and if not could/would you have to press the stem out of the kx500 triple clamps and into the Tecate clamps.

I bet the thing turned on a dime with that short 85 rear end...that is if you could actually keep the front end down. It's hard enough with the stock swingarm.

Thanks and Good Luck with it.

ps... I have an extra stock 86 pipe in good shape, but I'll only trade it for a Cal-Fab swingarm.... heh heh. :-D

Somehow...someway....you have to put 3-wheels below that kx500 powerhouse

I have a stock pipe w/o a silencer available but you probably want something aftermarket..??

What ignition did you buy? I see people listing some aftermarket / oem copies on ebay and am curious if they are any good. I am looking to replace my motoplat with something closer to OEM...

Curtis.

I still know of someone with a KX500 in a T3 that I will try and see if I can talk him out of it the next time I am in california.

are you sure you can get a dg pipe for a 86 t3? i couldnt

i told you i have a guy that can duplicate the cal fab swinger. he builds custome chrome moly banshee swingers all the time.

Dennis Kirk lists the 86 DG exhaust on their web catalog. The silencer is in stock at $78. The pipe is $170 but it says "expected soon". I've emailed James Lucky about the exhaust. I'll let you know if I hear from them. They may not offer them anymore.

I appreciate the offer for a replica swingarm. But I really want to hold out for the real thing. I'll find one someday.

djcheeze, drop me a line if you do come up with those factory plastics. :-D

I heard from James Lucky. They only deal with FMF & Cobra.

has anyone ever tried to fit a kx pipe to a 86 tecate?????

I think i got a KX pipe hanging up, it came on my 86 Tecate when i first got it, but the only thing is that the top of the pipe that goes under the gas tank would hit the cylinder head, but if you had a KX pipe you might could just make a dent in the pipe or make an extender to put there so it wont hit the the cylinder head anymore.

well the 94 kx 250 pipe was WAY off but the kx500 pro circut pipe was nearly a perfect fit!!!!!!!

hmmmmmm, i wonder how it will perform>?

The only KX250 Pipe I could see working is from 85-89. In 1990, when the KX125 & 250 underwent their radical redesign (perimeter frame, USD forks, etc.) they also switched to a "low boy" pipe. Pipes from 84 & prior years were designed to clear a single down-tube frame like the 84/85 Tecate and the engines had a slanted exhaust port and the pipe came up and under the tank on the same side as the sprocket, so no way they would work. I always thought one of the late model low-boy pipes on the Tecate would be awesome.

As for a KX500 pipe, wouldn't the tuning be off? I always thought the KX500 pipes had extra bends or curves toward the top of the expansion chamber area of the pipe than the 250s. That's interesting that you say it fits well. Since it's a pro circuit pipe, it'll probably rip! :-D

an 86 kx 500 pipe has almost the same bends, as far as mounting, as the 86/87 tecate. . as far as tuning, i thinkit is too big for the 250 motor, it'll prolly take forever to rev high, if it even will does yer 500 motor say kips on it?

well i got a stock pipe (actually i got two :? ) but i still plan on a better setup. i just have not found the right stuff yet. i have aquired several parts for the 86.

1. 83 kx250 ignition system
2. ricky stator ignition (ill use the better performer)
3. cal fab +2" swinger :-P

need
1. 86 supplement for the manual
2. 86 shock (any condition)
3. 86 air box and covers
4. right shroud (yea right :( )
5. time
