A couple weeks ago I posted a question as to what it would take to install the motor from an 82 ATC200E Big Red into an 83 ATC200 frame. There was much concern regarding the starter and sub tranny. After taking a close look at both 3wheelers in the garage, I can't see where there will be much of a problem. Here's a pic, what do you think?

The pic on the left is my running 83 ATC200. The other pic is the 200E. As far as I can tell, I may need to indent the downtube on the 200 to clear the starter some.

I did this swap yesterday...The only problem is the electric start, which I removed...

I plan to keep the elec start and put the battery in the fender compartment. :D

Then all you have to do is put a dent in the downtube to clear the frame...:Bounce

denting the downtube would make it more likely to bed easier in an impact situation, but that hasnt stopped many, why would you swap the motor?? they are the same motor except one has electric start and hi/lo...

Well I swapped my motors around,beacause I had a nice clean 82 roller,but had a junk motor...

I was also thinking about the downtube problem...

I would find a piece of tube which has a OD slightly smaller than the ID of the downtube.I would grind a notch out of this, then simply cut a section out of the downtube, insert your notched tube and weld it in...And you have a fully straight notched downtube, and you can slap in your motor!

I thought of that. I'm going to bring the frame to work and add a piece of steel tubing big enough to barely fit over the down tube to thicken the wall and cut and fill the notch properly.

The 200E motor is good but the frame is junk and the 200 has a good frame but the motor is junk. 1/2 + 1/2 = 1 running 3wheeler.

I wish they were good machines. I like the hitch on the red.
