I'm getting 2 yz465 dirtbikes for next to nothing, I want to put on into a trike. Any advice from you guys????? Anybody got a tri-z chassis around, I don't need the motor, pipe, electronics, carb, gas tank, fuel pump, headlight, radiators, front end parts I know I can use honda 85/86 250r parts for, so only the tripples and axle bolt would be nessacry and maybe the front caliper.

I'm trading for one on Sunday. I'll let you know what it takes to get the motor in there on Monday.

You're not going to believe this but it's a bolt in, all the mounts line up! Swing arm bolt, lower mount, frount mount and upper mount. The only problem you will have is where the down tube splits into 2 will interfere with the exhaust. Mine wasn't done this way but it would be very easy to cut the right side lower down tube, bend it in and reweld. This would be very factory looking and not many people would even notice.

Does the 465 have angled exhaust? The later '83 or '84 and up YZ490 top end has straight exit exhaust. It might even bolt on to your 465 bottom. :naughty:

The 465 does have angled exhaust. I'm not worried about it for mine since it's done but for anyone else wanting to do the swap that may be an option.

A YZ426F is a 4-stroke, totally awesome bike. We are talking about a YZ465 which is an older air cooled 2-stroke.

The 490 top ends where CRAP...the bore was too large and they constanly had pre-det problems and goofy as heck power delivery thoughtout the day depending on how hot it was (and they got HOT) i would stick with the 465...run on pump 91 i have had No pre-det problems or anything top-end related at all....:beer

thats very good news, I didn't take delivery of the bikes yet, and next I have to get a tri-z. My goal is I want everybody to think its a tri-z, then when I start it up and it doens't sound like one, nor doesn't run like one, the comments "what the hell is that???????" "what motor do you have stuffed in there, that aint't no tri-z motor".

I got the bikes and they are yz400's, does anybody if they will bolt into the tri-z chassis?

I don't know for sure if they will bolt right in or not. I would think though if the 465 does, they 400 will too. I have had a couple of these old dirt bikes and most of the chasis are close to identical and the displacement in the motor was mainly bore and stroke. The 465 might be a little taller than the 400. I don't have a ton of experience with these older bikes, but I have had a couple and that is what I have figured out. If the 465 goes right in, I bet the 400 will be close to the same.
