buy a manual and youll have it running in no time...and if you already have a manual, read the manual and you will have it running in no time.

if i lived within 200miles of you id probably drive over and fix the damn thing. but i cant. im almost positive from what youve described its not timing. it would only cost about 60$ just to have a shop find out whats wrong, and then you could go from there.
good luck though.

If youre using a timing light------USE THE "F" --F is for ignition--T is for valves

I wonder how well a timing light will work, you need to have the trike running to use it:lol: .
If the timing is off, then the cam chain is off a tooth or more, the only other option is that something is broken.
BUY A MANUAL!!!

Exactly!, theres been a load of helpful replies in other posts of guys telling you how you can find out whats wrong but you havent listened.
When my Z refused to start and unclediezel suggested checking the flywheel key, it took all of maybe 10 minits to check it................ IN THE DARK! so get up and of the computer and go check it, if not foryourself but just to give our patient yamaha doctor some relief

Wasn't there enough room in one of the other 5 threads you've made about this rather simple problem?
Anyway, good luck with your endevours;)

Ok guys i took all of your info and tried it all.. I took off the cover on the left side of the engine that shows the timing chain and yes i think the timing is excellent! it has a mark and its on the top and it lined up with the t in the timing window so i guess its not timing? also i tried starting fluid in the caRB NO GO BUT it back fired 3 times i dont really understand this woodruff key thing you guys are talking about i took the pull start cover off and i see a big bolt in the center do i have to take that bolt off?

Then go look at your motor---It should make sense after that.

Once you take that center bolt off, pull the bolt and the pullstarter hub off. Then remove the bolts from around the stator cover and remove it, you will then see the flywheel.
Wiggle it around and see if its loose.
All you have done is taken the recoil off, you're not going to find anything there.
YTM200BOY
12-15-2005, 11:08 PM
i cant take the main bolt off today i tried with a can of wd40 and it turns both ways left and right.. So how the hell do i take the big center bolt off?

A few thoughts---
An Impact wrench is first---but if ya dont have one -it dont help ya
#2-get an old automotive fan belt, wrap it around the shaft and hold it while turning the ratchet-
#3-- with #2 --get a hammer --and smack the ratchet handle
Yamahauler
12-16-2005, 12:19 AM
I found the easiest way to take this bolt of is to get a wrench and put the open box side jammed into the teeth of pull start hub and for the boxxed end, jam it into the footpeg. You'll have to figure out a length of wrench to use for jamming it, then use the 14mm wrech (I think thats what the bolt size is) and loosen the bolt.
YTM200BOY
12-16-2005, 10:53 AM
so when i take the bolt off i will see the woodruff key?? Will anything fall off or is anything hard to put back on?
Yamahauler
12-16-2005, 11:08 AM
You take the bolt out, pull the pullstarter hub off, you wont see the woodruff key here. Then loosen and remove the stator cover screws, then you will see the rotor.

no it hasnt ran yet for about a month but it backfires if i spray starting fluid in the carb with the throttle open then i close it i pull it and hit the thumb throttle and it backfired. this happened 3 times in a row then stoppped.. backfiring means it wants to start right?? I have a nother question could it be the spark plug>?>?

i doubt its his plug. if it is, well im buying a ONE way ticket to illinios to do some dumb slapping. LOL YTMBOY maybe * should see if it runs first before posting that it does. Just cause someone told you to replace your plug, then that IDEA hit you, it atomaticly runs, and get everyone on here relief. LOL im pretty sure it your timming if it is backfireing, that what that means, it not fireing at TDC (TOP DEAD CENTER). but go ahead and change your plug. Maybe you should get your DAD on here to comprehend what we are saying to do. Maybe you should give someone you phone number and talk to them that way, and maybe then can tell you what do to step by step over the phone.

If you work at the prolem with logic looking at each thing you touched from when it ran to when it didnt im sure you will find the problem. I had the same problem with no start and just backfires and i retraced what a did and with a little luck found what it was that was buggered. Turned out it was the one thing that i had touched since the bike ran!. So thats why the guys here are saying that looking at the carb should be the first thing you do. My bet? you dislodged some rubbish in the carb when you changed the flat needle that either got into the jet or stuck the float vavle slightly open making the engine flood. Just have a look at all the things youn have changed or touched, You never know it migth be just that you moved the wiring harness and made a dodgy connection stop working fully.
But it may just be as simple as a fouled plug, remember you can have a plug that sparks but wont start as when the piston comes up its much harder for the engine to spark and it finds and easier route to ground further up the ceramic. ;) keep patient and methodical and you will figure the problem out

ok guys a update i checked the plug last week its perfect we checked it all out electrically and were pretty possitive its not electric. so today i checked carb clened it out and everything i took a flathead screwdriver and scrathed the bottom of carb kind of hard and black crap was coming off so i scrathed all the sides and cleaned it out as possible as it could get. Another question is my choke was appearently broken off by the ass the owned it before me.. On the top of the carb there is a screw you unscrew and a spring holds the choke down and all the choke i have is the piece that sits in there does this work? - Thanks guys -Joe

I got another question before it stopped working when you were to go and pull it sometimes.... When you pulled it sometimes it would get alittle rope out then stick so basically it was like locked?? now it doesnt "lock" on any pull anymore does anyone know what im talking about?? Thanks
traxxasx
12-31-2005, 10:31 PM
ok, well its is hard to tell what your talking about, so heres what ya do, you get 25$ and *Edited* go to walmart, you find these littel digital cameras, no fancy on with a screen but the are digital and hook up too your comp. and take pictures of everything and what your talkin about and this would be much simpler, *Edited* shoulda took that deal up with on of these members to go down to your house to fix it for you.

I would make sure your getting spark first. Take out your plug, still attached to the plug wire and ground it to your head (no not your head, the bikes head). Give it a few pulls and see what happens. If your getting a nice blue, consistent spark, then your golden. Now, you can narrow it down to something else.

ok guys today i had what i call a goooood day lol it warmed up a bit around here and i noticed when i pull it now it goes like this..... ok you pull it then after the pull cord is extended out all the way it will make a putt putt sound for about 3 times then dies.. it does the same situation with starting fluid is there a good idea to make it stay on lol.... Thanks again -Joe

i think whats wrong with this bike is the carb is basically shot and the weather was cold or something...
traxxasx
01-01-2006, 10:56 PM
well when its cold you supossed to put lighter weight oil in so its easier to start. so i would go witha lighter weight just so it helps so you dont have to pull so hard.
DeePa
01-01-2006, 11:38 PM
did you try choking it, and holding the throttle wide open? get some air moving in there and see what happens
