I have a 1984 Big Red(200ES) it idles really high, it is really hard on the machine to keep shifting it in to gear where there is no clutch. The other night I took the carb off and cleaned it and put it back on with a new plug, no difference. So I ordered a carb rebuild kit and installed it last night, now the idle is even a little higher than it was before. The adjustment screw makes almost no difference whether it is all the way in or out. I also checked the throttle cable to make sure it wasn't pulled tight keeping the idle up and nothing. Can someone please help me I need to get this thing Idling right so I can ride it and I have no idea what to do next.

you put the throttle cyclinder on backwards. i had this problem. Where you screw the throttle into the carb on top, turn it 180 degrees from is current spot and all will be fixed.

on the bottom of the carb on the forward side there should be a screw. it's for part throttle opening adjustment. Turn that screw out until the motor slows way down, then adjust your idle with the idle screw. Then go back to that screw and turn it out until the bike stalls. Then turn it in 1 turn. Start the bike and see how it runs then.
I'm sure this isn't the best method, but it should work.

I turned the throttle cylinder 180 degrees and it doesn't go all the way down so I started it anyway and it idles like it is at full throttle, and as far as the screw on the bottom front side of the carb, which I believe is the pilot jet, I can take it all the way out and it slows the idle some but mainly makes it run alot ruffer.

spray starter fluid around the intake boot and see if the revs go away or increase...you probably have an air leak somewhere...

Did you replace the o-rings that go between the carb boot.. and the boot and cylinder ? I agree with Deepa .. air leak.. if everything else checks out.

Yep I agree with the last two post, you have an air leak somewhere, possibly a cracked intake boot.

I sprayed starter fluid around the intake and no difference, idle stayed high no lower and no higher, no difference at all. What else can I try?

Should I try finding a different carb to put on it or what else can I do?

I would so take your carb apart again, something is not right, make sure your slide is moving freely and coming back down freely. My 250 sat up for over 15 years and I took the carb apart several times until I got it right. also double check your cable, also it the cable is not routed correctly under the tank it will cause this.

if the throttle isnt sticking, adjusting the air/fuel screw and idle doesnt help then I still say you have the throttle in backwards.
If it didnt go in when you tried it last time you went too far or not far enough. Lift the piece up so its not catching on anything and spin it in the carb. push down gently so you can see where it goes all the way down and try that spot.
There are 2 spots that will allow the throttle to go in, one causees it to rev to the sky and the other is the normal spot.

I think you are missing some parts in that carb.. you've had it apart before right ?
the air/fuel screw should have a screw / spring/ metal washer / rubber o-ring
in that order. Do you recall if you had the RUBBER O-RING !! ????

Im not sure about honda---but is there some sort of clip holding the needle in the throttle valve---if so , and the clip is missing --the needle retracts into the valve-and leaves the main jet open-regardless of throttle position
