Time to repack the R's FMF Powercore, ordered the repacking stuff. The package has a roll of rolled up 'fiberglass' packing about 14" long. The muffler is half that length, do I just cutt off the length I need and slide the roll over the tube on the exhaust pipe, or physically pack the material in there?
Hopefully this will quieten it down, right? It's loud as hell right now.
Thanks

Cut it to length is what I always do,and yes it always dampens the noise a little.

Yes, cut it off at the length that you want.

thanks! that's cool, you can get 2 packings outta 1 pkg. Can you tell any difference in the regular and the 'high performance' packing?

Ive noticed that the more expensive it it the longer it will last. the cheap stuff ya needa change every couple months (thats how much i ride) with the expensive stuff you can get a year or so outa it. (rember i ride alot)

K, the difference is only a buck, but sounds like I'll get it next time since it lasts that much longer. Save the extra $ for TF06 fund!
also the tighter you wrap the packing helps the top end. the looser you wrap it gives more bottom end. at least that is what dirt wheels tech tips claims. i always wrap it tight as i can

Did you clean out the core? (take a wire brush or somthing like that) If dont pack it that tight then it should quite it down a bit. Also, was the old packing kinda brittle and crunchy?

The core really wasn't too dirty, but I scrubbed on it with a rag and WD-40, the old packing was compressed and saturated, but not brittle or crunchy.
How long is the Powercore silencer suppossed to be? Mine looks cut off, only about 7" long? Looks too short.

Hahaha 3legged used some insulation that we found in our ditch as the muffler packing in that R. It worked pretty good, especially since it didnt have any in it when he got it.
