OK, up the road from my work is a 1985 250R rollin chassis, cheng shin tires, maier rear plastics, the head light shell is cracked, seat is bad, no rad shrouds (rads are there) tank is faded, forks are iffy (have pitting in them, but not in the stroke of the tube) motor was taken out to be put into a go cart frame.

I can get a motor for it pretty easily, the question is, is it worth doing? I have rad shrouds, a decent tank and seat at work i can pick up cheap, and i can find me a motor for it.

I was half hopin the guy would say when i knocked on his door about it to just get it off his lawn (been sittin there for about a month) but, since it wasnt his, he took my name and number and said he would talk to the owner about it today (i dont think he did, he smelt like booze and a bit of mary jane, lmao)

What would you pay for it? It has a billet twist throttle, good frame, some what decent plastics, decent tires, gold rims, poor seat and tank, no rad shrouds...

I'm not sure what an "R" would go for. A bit much for me.

I know what I would give for what you have discribed.

Offer dude $100. Maybe work up to $200. Thats it.

All that stuff is cool to us but I really don't think it is worth much to the general public.

Besides, people always need more jack at Christmas time.

I'd offer to trade him a small ammount of 'Mary Jane' for it. Definitely not more than $200 worth. Maybe thro in a bottle of mad dog to sweeten the deal. Seriously tho, make sure the axle ain't bent, check the swingarm and frame real good for cracks, make sure the brakes are all there. Rear brake assembly is hard to find for a decent price. by the sound of it, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it, but then again I probably have paid more and gotten less. About a year and a half ago I bought one off ebay in similar condition for $300. Have a price limit in mind before you make an offer. Start low, feel him out, and don't go over your limit. If it's been there for a month, you probably have a good shot at gettin it cheep. Good luck!

swing arm, axle, all the brakes and masters are great, frame is a tad bit rusty and faded paint, other then that, its all cosmetics (other then its missing a motor, LOL)

If the guy took the motor out of it to put in a go kart then he probably doesn't understand this addiciton. I'd seriously offer him $50 and I'd bet dollars to donuts he'll jump on it. Think about it, why part out a good threewheeler for a go kart? Trust me I know this type. He'll take 50 and be happy!

If the rear axle is straight.. hubs not stripped.. swingarm bearings and carrier bearings should be checked... look to make sure nothing has been welded together.. wiring harness. etc.....

seat is a minor thing.. shrouds .. same..

I'd slide him a bag of bud and a 100 $ and offer to load it on the truck right there on the spot !! lol...

well, the guy isnt going to sell it, i dont know why, but he aint sellin it to me, which kinda sucks.

BUT

I got a lead on a complete 83 or 84 250R, runs, new rear tires (i actually installed them at work!) few other odds and ends, he comes into my work all the time and i never knew he had it.

He is just a young kid, and i think he is looking for something better, so this might be my chance to scoop an R up cheap.

Curtis,

Sometimes people change their minds. You might check on it later.

Some peole get annoyed though. I moved my 68' GTO project in the back yard at my old house because I got tired of people stopping by to ask me if I wanted to sell it.

If it bothers him, maybe he should move it out back !

Just some thoughts.

it is outback, but you can see it from the road a bit, only the front end and the tank.

The kid stopped in today at my work, lookin for a jug for his 83 R, i said what happened, he belw it up while racin his bro in the snow. Melted a hole right in the top of the piston and scuffed the crap outta the cylinder.

I asked if he wanted to sell it, he said he would think about it, but he wants to learn how to do a top end, which is understandable, but he says he is going to sell it for 1200 when he gets it finished, which dont jive with me, lol

This kids sounds like he doesn't know what he has.

He thinks it is worth more than it is. This is an indicator. Bet you can check with him later and it will be for sale cheap.

Things may be different in Canada. I don't know.

Nice country up there. I went to Hamilton a couple of times.
