Ok, i bought a yt 125 . The guy told me it needed a new piston . So i got a jug that was freshly bored out ,honed and a brand new wiesco piston kit from a guy off ebay for $64. Thought that was a good deal. I put it together today and it started right up. Then the idle raced really high and stalled. Now when it starts it spits and sputters and dies, even giving it throttle. I put in a new plug, and tried the carb off my other yt 125. Still does the same thing. Also i noticed that the small sprocket spins and i shifted to neutral, still does it. I dont have the chain hooked up yet.It only does it while running, i can turn the motor over by hand and it doesnt do it then.

Small sprocket will spin---even in neutral --because of centrifugal force--no need to worry---
Screaming rpms---and die ---
99% of my experience tells me the motor is starving for gas---I cant explain it --but every time my tank went empty--It -SCREAMED--.-Is the gas turned on?--Take the hose off the carb and turn on the petcock---does it pour out of the hose?

Its in my garage and i had the heat going. Gas pours out the line. I got reeds with the ebay deal too and they look good, no warps , no gaps . Lay flat against the cage.

When it first started it idled really fast and missed bad like it was cutting out. I only let ir run for about 30 secs. Then when i restarted it would just spit and sputter.

It trys to start every pull, runs for about 2 secs now. I took the carb off and pulled it and it still fires so im going to clean the carb and see what happens.

Check the throttle cable maby its stuck or somthing, that happend to me once. check the fuel filter to, maby its dirty.
You have the signes of a classic air leak, and if it started up and reved to the unfkin moon you probably fryed your new rings and put a nice score mark on your cylinder, take a compression tester too it..for staters, if its low you know its pooched, if it still has over 100lbs of compression, take it to a motorcycle shop and have them do a leak down test on it to pinpoint the air leak, it could be many things,,

It still has compression.
Heh, in my haste to write the post i kinda forgot to say check your slide, make sure its in right, if its backwards it will rev to the moon and constantly flood it out causin it not to start..

Should the needle on the slide have a point on it? Mine is flat. My plug is wet when i take it out.

Flat as in--Piece broken off?----If you have another slide -- most definitely try it--I think it was supposed to be slightly rouned off at the very bottom---

Ok, i put the plug i had in it before. Its not the right one its a ngk B8ES for the YTZ 250 and it starts and idles now. Still boggie when i give it throttle. Alot of smoke, my gas is mixed 40:1 . My air/fuel screw needs some adjusting i think. I

look in your carb ----make sure the piece isnt stuck in the jet---or youll break another one when it goes together.

I took the plug on the bottom of the carb off and cleaned it and i could see straight through where the the needle slides in so there isnt a piece in there.
