To all 83-85 200x owners

I have been looking and looking for good working rear calipers for some time now and have had it with the junks on ebay that don't work right ever. I've looked all over hell and back for new calipers that don't cost 230.00 and no luck. Well for the past few weeks I've been comparing calipers from newer machines to the calipers on the 200x's and have discovered that the newer Raptor rear calipers fit like a glove. I bought a used one on ebay and just got it today and put the 200x mounting bracket on and it fits the 200x without any mods:w00t: :w00t: :w00t: The only problem with doing this is that the bleeder valve is very close to the brake line and you will not be able to use a ratchet to bleed the brakes. This doesn't bother me one bit since the performance from these calipers is like no other 200x caliper that I have ever owned.

No mods at all. I was wondering if anyone would catch on to what I said in the threar abouth the single best mod ever when I wrote about this. Yes no mods and they work great. You could even use the original ebrake setup if desired but I hate them. I hope this helps other 200x owners and early 250r owners too. Oh yeah this may work on the 350x's too. Oh yeah it was a 2004 660 Raptor caliper by the way.

An opened faced wrench works good. It wasn't hard to bleed them just took alittle extra time but is worth it for sure.

You can fix the brake line issue by having custom stainless steel braided brake lines made up with a 90 degree banjo fitting on one end. Just make it ~1.5" longer to compensate for the 90 degree bend. Companies in San Diego like Industrial Liquidators can make a new rear line up for you for ~$25.... You just give them your old line and tell them to match it with the additional length and different fitting.... The stainless steel braided brake lines were always one of my favorite sportbike mods, because it takes all the spongy feel away.... Excellent find by the way... Now to find some upgraded fork tubes for it, some that you can revalve, and then a nice front caliper to fit those!!! James

I don't see any reason to make new lines but thats my opinion. The bleeder valve doesn't touch the line but is close enough so a socket won't fit. A 8mm open end wrench works fine since the valve only need to be open a hair. Now I will get back to finding new front calipers.

Excellent work, One more thing to help keep our machines alive and up to spec well on into the Future. If you robbed it from an 04 then 01-05 should be the same.. Just a little more info for everyone.

So the 200X calipers front and rear won't swap?

I didn't see any way to swap without a different moutning bracket. It doesn't really matter anymore to me since the raptor caliper works great. Other people said it works but I tried with multiple brackets with no luck.

The raptor caliper is far better than any I've had. All of the 200x calipers I have were rebuilt and look like crap since the slide bolts were stuck. This new one works sweet and locks the rear up pretty damn good. They seem to be a little touchy but I like them that way.

If you switch to organic brake pads you won't get as much initial bite from the pads......

you can do this with any of the brke calipers that use the same pads as a 200x


we put a mojave caliper on a warroir just used the warroir bracket

one guy a raced with had a banshee and put he put a brand new 300ex caliper on it. it fit just used the banshee bracket. one guy we raced with had connections on honda parts cheap

A new rear caliper has been on my "to do" list for awhile. Seems like a lot of the used once have the same problem: Rusted bolts.

I've often wondered if a 400EX caliper would fit, I was planning on going that route initially.

I've rebuilt both calipers on my 200X with great succes, but of course I am one the few fools left in this world that will fiddle with something until it works.

as for the rusted bolts, there is a shallow but wide groove that is in the middle of big bolt, if you take the bolt and the seals out you can drill and tap a hole for a small grease zerk and then you can greaes the bolt so it doesnt cease up anymore. for the small bolt in the bottom that slides in a rubber bushing, I use a syringe with grease in it and poke it through the side that looks like a rubber plug.

if you dont keep those parts greased and maintenenced, it doesnt matter how new or how old they are, they will rust and cease up.

The caliper I used was from a 2004 Raptor 660. I tried many other brake calipers with no luck until I tried this one. The raptor is the only swap that I know of now but that should change soon since I found others that are very similar.

that should work if you put the 200x bracket on the 400ex caliper. they use the same exact prake pads.

look in a dennis kirk or some catalog. the only 3 atc's or quads from the 80's that use different rear pads are atc and trx250rs and triz's.

I would electropencil what that came off of just in case you forget and need another or if you sell the trike so the next owner knows what that came off of since the parts rep probably won't know he indeed does have something for that one. I did that with the pedals of my camaro from a firebird. One sits a little higher than the other but I havent adjusted the clutch yet.

NICE JOB!!!! Always great to find newer parts that interchange. It's so true about the slide bolts, too many people neglect them and 20 year old parts that were taken care of are a beyatch to find. What did you have to pay for it? I would imagine that rapter calipers are limited and not to cheap but then again under 100$ sounds good to me!

Seems to me that this just helps prove the fact that 3-wheeler's are superior to 4 wheelers. They are just now getting around to using stuff we have been using for 20 years. LOL

Interesting info. Maybe the 400EX/300EX rear caliper will work on a 200X. I have noticed the brake pads are identical part numbers in the catalogs.

That's true about the greasing part. I have to pull mine apart and try greating the bolts one last time.

What's everyone using for grease on these bolts?

I payed 50.00 for that raptor caliper and no the 300ex and 400ex don't work from what I was told. I do have a few others that should be a damn near oem replacement to the front and rear I'm just waiting to get them in the mail. If it all works out I will then post which work and which ones don't work.

Reason I ask is because the Raptor caliper will also fit an 84/85 Tecate. Cool stuff.
