The other night I decided that I Was going to "float" the 200 across the pond before I drain it. Everything was going good and I rocked the front a little 2 far forward, got the plug wet and shut it down. Everyhting would have been alright but i stupidly grabbed the recoil and gave it a tug. That filled the whole motor up with water. I got it up to the house, and the engine oil was trashed, so I changed it, and changed it again, and changed it again. I am on change number 4 (counting original oil) and the damn thing still has water in it. Any tips on how to get the water out? Its starting to get expensive on the oil bill here.... To remedy this problem I am going to start on the snorkel system in the next day or two lol....

Top End water removal:

Remove spark plug-Flip trike upside down-Pull recoil until cylinder is drained.

Most of the bottom end should be able to be drained when draining the oil... Tip the trike so that the engine is draining towards the drain plug..... You may want to pull the recoil slowly a few times while doing this to help spin everything off.... There may be a problem with the recoil itself holding water, but I am unsure, and don't want to give you false advice there.... James

Water and oil don't mix.. so that white foam will keep comming.....

I've read of some guys using kerosene to flush the block out.. as it will absorb water and help clean things out... i have never done it personally.

loosen up the bolts on the recoil starter and let it drain.. the pull start is seperate from the tranny.

spray a little wd 40 mdown in there to keep her lubed and just turn it upside down and keep turning her over for about an hour. tip water isnt good. stayt out of water. i did it with my 95 kx 250 and it took me about 2hours to get all the water out dont change oil all the time waste of money just get water out by having it upside down and turn the motor over another thing removecarb and drain it and clean and dry air filter(also remove).

After you have all the water out,Buy some "super cheap" oil- fill er up and let her run, -The hotter the better. pop the oil fill plug off and let the rest steam off. when it stops steaming, Drain the oil one last time and fill it with your brand of choice.

Alcohol mixes with and absorbs water. Oil is lighter than water and they dont mix well. Use 90% rubbing alcohol. DONT put alcohol in a hot engine, i did and a cloud chased me. Dont run it with alcohol vapors in the engine either, they can go bang.

kerosene has a low ignition point.. much safer than alcohol.

by now . you have flushed it a bunch of times.. enough to safely run it with what ever oil you have in it.

Let it run at least 5 to 10 minutes.. ride around slowly without pushing it hard. then right away drain it as best as possible.. alot will flow out.

Then pour some kerosene in it ( only if it's still REALLY milky, if it's not bad.. another change might do.. )

Drawback is the following.. if you pour kerosene in it.. put lots and let it absorb he water.. pull it with the kill switch off... let it mix up while warm. NOT BOILING HOT.. and then drain it again..

You then have to add more oil once again......... flush the kerosene and more water.....

It's a PITA... but if you really care about the engine... it's either this or take it apart and wipe it all down.... that ain't no fun either.

Try letting it sit and the water and oil will seperate. If it is milky it isnt seperated. Remove drain plug and water will come out first. Then put plug back in when you see oil coming out. You might have to do it a couple of times but will save on your oil

The best way to get water out of an engine it to keep the engine out of the water in the first place.

Hey Will, at least it was not an $8000 machine you sunk on the first night of a ride.

Was I not suppose to ride it any more.:wondering I like the two stroke effect.

It is getting its first break in service now. So she is in good hands...for the moment anyway.

I agree with lonesome. Stay out of taht deep stuff. I have no experience getting water out but it sounds like deatons has it right.

I use a mix of half and half motor oil and automatic tranny fluid to clean water out of a motor. drain the watery oil out, replace with the half and half mix, and idle the motor until it is warm. then drain out the mix and replace with fresh oil.

Tranny fluid absorbes water, it will get it all out of the motor.

Thanks for all the input, I havent had a chance to mess with it in a few days so I will use a couple of these suggestions to try and get it cleaned out.

My friend just got a YTM 200 Yammi for free that was sunk in a lake. He is currently just draining the engine right side up and is just putting junk oil in it to help clean the **** out.

One thing I was wondering about, Can you blast air through the spark plug hole to clean the water out? Just an idea.

you'd have to get air past the rings wich won't work very well.

put the air into the oil fill hole .. and it might help push some thru the drain hole.. but not thru the plughole.

You'll never get all the water out. I did 4 changes and had the same issue. Best thing to do now is take it for a ride. Once the engine gets to op temp, it'll take care of any residual moisture. You could change the oil a whole bunch of times, and you'll never get every last drop out.

Edit:
Here's the pics of the crossing that took on just a little bit of water :)

Really? The pics seem to be loading OK for me. Odd.

Thanks ATCnut for the advice on getting rid of the milky oil. i looked over everyone's suggestion and figured i'd try yours. i drained the original milky oil. then removed the oil filter and then ran the mix of 10w40 and atf fluid for about 5 mins. drained it all, wiped out the filter housing and put a new filter in it, added fresh oil and ran bike again. clean oil now with no more milk !!! so much easier then several oil changes which tends to get costly.

A diesel mix works great too. It's not hard to get out ALL the water, it's just how fast you do it!

And mud/silt/sandy water is the last stuff you guys want to play Rubber Ducky in unless you want to destroy a trike; There isn't just the motor but all the bearings too......

I've used diesel to flush motors out.

I haven't got water in any engines by accident, but I've power washed some. Last was my YT175, power washed the gear box and clutch housing, everything after the clutch flew apart. After that, i immediatly filled it with diesel.

Filled it to the brim, sloshed it around, drained it. Repeated this wth a gallon and a half of the stuff. I had the clutch cover off as i did this also. After that, i filled it with transmission fluid, ran it for an hour, drained it. It came back looking pretty good. Filled it again, ran it until today(been 'bout 2 weeks since), drained it. looks pretty good.
