Hey Folks,

I'm back after signing up about a little over a year ago.

At the time, my neighbor gave me his old 85' or 86' Big Red 250ES basket case. I promptly cleaned the frame and plastic. The trike had been covered with flat black spray paint that was flaking off. The headlight had even been painted over.

Well all this went on the back burner and about a month ago I started working on it again. I have been buying parts on E-bay and so far I have kept the project down to about $130. Mostly buying manuals and missing or broken parts.

I am about to put the engine back in. I am going to have to get the seat recovered and stuff like that. It looks like this project is going to hit about $250 before it is said and done with.

What is the limit to spend on a project like this ? I was thinking $250 to $350.

Also, where can you get handlebar levers and grips. What size are the grips ?

Thanks

Your budget is how much you wanna spend, some people spend up to 1000 on some trike and some lower. The grips are all the same i think, but if * get some that are for twist throttel one will be bigger. mostly any bars will fit and levers at your local honda store.

I'm at the $800 mark right now with my SX, so if yours has alot of broken and missing parts and you keep it under $350 I'll be impressed.

Considering that those bikes bring $1500 on E-bay, I'd say anything under $1000 and your in great shape!

Correct Mr. Adams is correct. I purchased a 50$ big red that had been sitting in a field. I bought all new plastic, all new bearings, new headlight, rear tires, and another tank (since the old one was rusted) and all new cables, brakes and levers. SO I would say I have around 500-700$ in it now and could probably sell it for 1200$ without an issue. If you are in need of plastics, JL Atv has the best price for the rear and they are the new kind with the rear built in mudflap. You can get new cables for around 15$ each and the same with the levers. DO NOT get caught bidding on used cables on ebay cuz you can get new for cheaper. My local shop sells them and they are motion pro. But remember when doing projects, its only worth as much as you love it and enjoy it.............peace

Scott,

I am right across the river from you in Arkansas. Where is this shop you deal with ?

Your right about E-bay. I am buying used stuff like cables when I should be buying new.

Thanks

Vance

The place I am talking about is in Bartlett near the big Wolf Chase Mall. ITs call J&M ATV Supply. 7221 Hwy 64, Memphis TN 38133, (800)367-9603. Let me know if you need me to pick them up and then ship it to you. I am sure they can do the same. Or heck if you come this way, swing by my house and we can roll over there together...........peace
