On any trike. The single thing, that you believe made the most difference in any area. Performance, comfort, reliability, anything.
Looking forward to reading the replies on this one :)

I'd say when I turned my choke from half on to off !!! That made the biggest improvement ever (Don't laugh to hard lol.. somehow I didnt realise it was on .. just knew it was running like crap)
Also when your doubling, and well you loose the extra 150lbs thats on the back .. thats a major improvment!!!!
But for real I haven't really done any "Real" mods .. that have made me be like holy.

I suppose so. Thats a good answer too.
I would have to say it was my ITP Mudlites on my 225.I can go any where with those tires.Very happy with them.

Single best thing I ever did was getting the 350x carb for my SX. A close second is busting the air valve on my works shock. Makes it bounce as your going along through the trail, suprisingly comfortable.

Putting grease zerks in all the places they should have been in the first place on my 350x.
Perhaps the bigred ( one of them anyways) will get "zerked" this winter.
A very strong second would be putting the after markek rubber footpeg covers on both my mainstay machines ,,,, very comfortable.

"dammit!" what is this 'loading ramp' you speak of? Id say the biggest improvement for me was putting my head down and having the visor of my helmet on the hanlebars. I must have went another 1.5 mph faster, but when you try this make sure you look up now and then.

Best mod ever?
Putting a Works Shock on my SX. Thing rides like a Cadillac now.
BUT its been totally overshadowed by moving from a rural area where my ride spot was 5 minutes away to moving to a urban area where ride spot is (at least) 1 hour away. I love my trike but I want to RIDE the thing not just look at it.

I would have to say I have been lucky and havn't wasted any mods.In other words every mod I have done on my Z has made it better. The best so far for me is the C-Series Banshee wheels and 19x10x10 Holeshot tires. This thing rails corners now.I havn't been able to run my banshee rear end yet,but I think this will be a big help also.(Double roller bearing carrier,Wave rotor, banshee caliper, etc.)I think when the previous owner did the 38MM carb,Big bored, and Ported it was the best mod this machine has ever had.

I can't forget the DG pipe and the Boost bottle that wasn't on it when I bought it.

Going from a DG to an ESR ATC-5 Pipe on the 250R. Great performance gain and it's chrome instead of black.
How big of a difference does it make, I bought both brand new oem 23" and 25" Z tires.
My take on it is that it has improved the turning agility. I'm running the 23" stock 86 Z Tire. That tire on the 12" rim pretty much eliminated the sidewall flex that the 25" tire had. It also brings the front end down some which helps too. Mine feels like it slides easier and makes directional changes quicker. My opinion I always thought the stock tire sizes on the 85 Z were too much of a balloon tire for a sport trike. But they do provide a cushy ride. Having an 86 KXT spoils you the way they slide and turn with their stock tires. I also have 18" rears, wheel spacers, and a +2 westcoast swingarm on my Z.

I would have to say that over the years, I have gained the most satisfaction from exhaust upgrades, especially on pingers. Theres just something a little bit magical about seeing how your machine performs after you get it dialed in. Sometimes the difference is night and day - sometimes subtle - but the results are always a different machine from when you started and thats whats so cool about it.
Howdy
11-23-2005, 04:36 PM
I would say welding a can of WD40 onto the TriZ as a Silencer. Not only does it quiet the exhaust down it sprays WD40 onto the fenders and keeps the mud off.
LMFA, I didn't do it, but the previous owner did.

Best mod? Hmmmm. Let me think. 5 words. Wires, hoses, & digital wizardry. ;)
hands down, porting.on any machine makes a huge difference.but that goes hand in hand with a pipe and jet kit.if you have not ported your machine,2 or4 stroke,do it. you will be happy.plus,it is a sleeper mod.no one can see it.

i would say my best mod was, changing my intake from stock to no airbox/straight k and n, 38mm airstryker, cr intake boot, mossbarger reed cage, reed spacer and porting the intake boot to the reed cage and lightly porting the moss cage... drag pipe and porting would come in a close second and the +4 swinger in 3rd to keep the fornt down....

Well, I havent really modded any of the trikes that I own myself persay but I Love handling, The +4 axle in the 250r has to be one of the greatest mods for my type of riding that I have ever done. I do alot of tire switching too. I have 20 stock Raptor tires on Cannondale wheels on the back of my 350X right now, slowed it down a little but hooks up great and turns way better.

I Think after the Port Work,Pipe,Gearing,Tire's,ETC ...The Best "Thing's" were the ATC Thumb "for the PWK",along with the 1985 ATC Thumb Cable,The Cut FlyWheel, and I think the BEST Thing was the Intake Mod that a Friend of mine told me about ... He Races Car's and Stuff and Told me to Build a Intake System that will be as good or BETTER than the "Pod"....what we did was Fab up a Alluminum Thing to Bolt up to the "Z" to hold the White Bros. I had a buddy who worked for Vito's a few miles away do an awesome port job,Completely removed the whole airbox assy.& droped in a K&N ,went with a rad valve, piped it and went with a pwk 39mm carb. You can actually hear the air getting sucked into the system!

Well for the 350x the single best thing was having Yamahondaman lighten the flywheel. Now I have INSTANT throttle response on a 350x. Pipe would be second (but ya gota jet so its not one single mod)
But for EVERY atc i would have to say get some FLAT tires. No more of those dang baloons/rounded ones. The stability is 100 times better without rounded ones.

I got me a shop manual like someone else but the thing that I put on it was new tires and a little flower basket on the front to carry my beer :beer and ice to the remote areas I go to. I also added one of those little ringadingding bells to the handlebar where the brake lever that isn't there once was. It really doesnt do a damn thing since the jackelopes get out of the way long before they can hear it over the engine so's I do not run them over.

The BR9EV and B9EV are thin electrode with Palladium. Which is rare type of gold. To think of all the ones I threw away.
It was band aid fix for weak LT250R ignition. It sparks better because of the gold and is less resistant to fouling.
They are great plug if you can find them, but they got real expensive. I would buy them cheap $6-7 from a local marine dealer that used to sell quads and stuff. Almost had employee sell me all the old stock plugs out the back door for $50, because I was the only one to buy them and had to tell the employees what drawer to look in to find them because I knew they were there, lol.
But, yeah, High Rev PT pipe was awesome add on, ported cylinder, jetting, the usual , but I gotta say TIRES !!!!
My heavy tires had way too much rotating mass. Reduce that if possible.

AMAL Carb. No Joke!
HAHAHAHAHAHA.......wait....are you serious?
I hated those Amals on my Bonnevilles. They ran ok but most were worn slides and that "tickler" button was the easiest way to get gas all over the place.
I installed a pair of Wal Phillips drag carbs on one Bonnie for fun.....what a carb!.....It was a drip-fed tube where the throttle operated a drum valve on the gas intake. They like it WOT but outside of that, great for starting small fires....sold them as collector pcs for big $$$

Had a set of 4 that was bolted up in a bank to suit a 900 Kawi. There were drilled to take Mikuni mains and bored out to 35mm. That was about as good as it got before the 33 Smoothbores came out in the 80's.
