Exact same pipe (DG/COBRA). Both are trash, as both are the same. Loud. Nothing more than cheap stock replacements, Id say a 3% performance increase. If you really feel obligated to remove aperfectly good stocker jsut to say youve got an aftermarket dg or cobra pipe...put a "Sparky" on there to quiet the thing down.

I would have to agree.....

Me too, I have a nice chrome one on my 200x, loud. Look nice on there though. Stick with the stock one.

I tend to agree with you people no real performance increase but it sure sounds and looks great :-D
Heres a pic of the one on my 110:

I have a DG Krome header and mufler on my 350x, I don't think with an otherwise stock motor it would do much but if you are going port, cam, or carb it you will need some type of better exhaust. The DG is a bit loud but I bought a spark arrestor kit (basically a set of supertrapp discs) so if I am in a "noise sensitive" area I can tailor the noise to what I feel I can get away with but when I am out riding the frozen lake I can uncork and let that sucker sing. BTW DG says the spark arrestor kit wont work with the Krome exhaust, it will you just need to put a bolt through the muffler's core so that you have something to attach the eye hook to so the discs can be bolted on. I can send a pic of mine if you need it. As for the cobra sparky kit, I have one for my ATC330r and I can tell you if it is the same style as the 4 strokers use it will not quiet it down at all. The sparky is basically a tip with two screeens in the center to diffuse the sparks so it does nothing to quiet it down. Kinda like talking to someone through an open window with a screen in it, the screen doesn't block the sound of your voice at all.

There is no across the board answer to this question as the effects will depend on what you are putting it on. When you pipe a 4 stroke for performance, no matter what the machine, and what the pipe, the effects are not going to be nearly as dramatic as piping a 2 stroke. Ive talked about running both pipes on my TriZ, the Cobra was to replace the stock when it rotted out, and the DG was put on by the other guy who owned it briefly. The DG did add a little to the bottom end, while I couldnt tell the Cobra from stock. The Cobra silencer was much louder than stock, while the DG seemed about the same. I would not characterize either as junk. Both made fine replacements at a fraction of the cost of OEM. Ill also add the main purpose of piping a two stroke is to alter the powerband and move it to where you want it. They rarely "add power" or "increase performance". This is a myth. They shift the power into the range where you want it, i.e. a low end pipe increases low end but that it loses off the top end.
Since you are asking about a 225, Ill just say that if youre looking for performance, dont waste your money on a different pipe. You can find more dramatic improvements by putting that money elsewhere. If your pipe is rotted out, and you need a new one, youll be satisfied with either of those mentioned.

the way some cobra pipes come, they are loud. I got the brushed aluminum one for my 86X, and it had about 3 inches of silencer. I hated it. MR ATC told me to order the "quiet core" from DK for $18. It slipped right in, and now the 86 200X is as quiet as it was with the stock exhaust, only it sounds better and is less restrictive. I would suggest for looks, going with the same pipe, but ordering the longer replacement silencer at the same time. I felt the stock exhaust was pretty restrictive, and it seems to rev better now. Can you "feel" the difference? No.

... BLAZERONE22 .... thats gonna be one sweet looking X when you're done with it. ... as for this question ... the basic truth is that in restoring our older bikes, we don't have much if any of a choice it what type of aftermarket exhaust we can put on them - Cobra and DG are the only companies that still offer performance exhaust for many older rides. No they don't offer the "most" horsepower increase as many of your newer exhaust manufacturers - but even a 2hp increase in a 12hp 200X engine is alot and can be felt, not to mention they make a bike look alot nicer and thats worth the money in my book. This question of "Does DG or COBRA suck" comes up alot on this board and my only answer to it is this: instead of trashing them for not being this nor that, we should applaud them for sticking with "us" and offering a good range of replacement exhaust for our dinosaurs.

I couldn't agree more Wickedfinger. To be honest, I'd be suprised if there was any difference between a DG, Cobra, Yoshimura, White Bros, Pro Circuit, or FMF exhaust system. If you took a stock 400EX, dyno'ed it, then did nothing but put on an exhaust I think you'd see only a couple of horses gained no matter which brand it is. I definitely give credit to DG and Cobra for sticking with us 16 years after the banning. I give DG extra credit for offering a new system (Oval) for the 350X!!

I agree with Tejas as well, as that we should thank DG/Cobra for staying with us and knowing what will sell no matter how horrible the exhasut is.
The thing about 4 strokes is....an exhasut does not make the machine perform drastically better at all. Unlike 2 strokes, throwing an exhaust on the machine wont be getting you much of an upperhand vs. stock, other than the fact that stock exhausts are usualyl Very restrictive, like stock air filters and air boxes.

I agree and disagree. a good pipe will get you some improvement on a stock bike (no, not like a two stroke) but DG and Cobras aren't good pipes. I have one on my '85 200X because I really couldn't find anything else. I am thankfull that someone is still making pipes for these old bikes even if they aren't good pipes.

I am not saying they are great but what pipe that is available for a quad is better than these and what makes them better? I think the fit and overall finish on my DG Krome is fine and it definitely flows better than the stock unit, the headpipes are even bigger than the stock ones were. Now, try and find me a chrome exhaust with a header for any quad for under $200, My exhaust was only $165.00.

Would you buy a used Cobra for 60$, my stock is fine.

Sure, if its in good shape and you've got $60 burning a hole in your pocket. If it is too loud for someplace you are riding you can always toss the stocker back on.

I HAVE A 225DX WITH A STOCK PIPE AND A 225DX WITH A COBRA EXHAUST AND I SAY THAT THE 225 WITH THE COBRA BLOWS THE STOCK ONE AWAY. IT NOT ONLY SOUNDS BETTER (LOUDER :D ) IT PERFORMS SO MUCH BETTER. THATS MY 2 CENTS......
