My Dad lives in northern Wisconsin. I go up there a lot for recreational reasons ;)
He just bought a three wheeler and wants a ski for it.
Here is the info he gave me.
it's a 1988 it's a 200 E shaft. The front tire is 25 x 12.00-9 it is about 11 inches wide Yamaha
I know nothing about them. But I'll ride anything

It wont be an 88, Yamaha only made trikes up to 86, so its something between 83 and 86.
I welded two old ski's together for my trike (1983 Yamaha 200e). Then I just drive the wheel over top and strap it on with tie down straps. I havent used it yet, but I imagine it should work well. It'll have way more floatation and better steering than the wheel does.
I'll get a pic in a few minutes.

That is genius yamahauler. I see a trip to my local scrapyard to pick me up some skis. What kinda metal did you use to weld them together? the size I mean. And... where do you plan on tie straping the wheel in?(the points)

I think that angle iron is 1/4" can't quite remember, but thats what it looks like. I drew a pick of how the wheel is going to go, and I'll just strap it in a cross over the wheel. The tire width of my yamahauler is 12" so I made it so the edges of the ski's were exactly 12" apart.
I'll let you know how it works if we ever get snow again. (Or whenever I fix my clutch, I'm lazy)

My brother bought a atc90 when he got back from overseas in 1970 ,,, it had a ski on the front of it. Not much to it and didn't steer worth a crap but was really neat in so far as if it wasn't needed it folded up (or rotated) or flipped up and over the front fender.
I don't ever recall seeing one since then ,,, those would be way up there on the "rare" hondaline parts.

yamahauler the only thing i can see that would go wrong on your little invention is that in an unbroken trail if your skis dont float as well as you hope it will plow because the wheel wont be able to turn, if you could make brackets that were strong enough to take the wheel right off and mount the skis to the forks it would make the front end lighter therefore you would also float better. but that would cancel out riding on many paved/plowed/bare ground areas.

O, you dont worry, they will float. I have some high hopes for this thing.
The front end on yami's are very light. It gets decent floatation with the front tire on unbroken trail. So if I increase the area of contact for the front by probaly 3 or 4 times, it will spread out even better and I guarentee you it will work great.;)
I hope.........

Another good trick is to get a crazy carpet (know what I mean?) and put it below the exhaust on the frame and let it hang back under the bike. This will keep the frame from plowing up snow in front of it and allow the back tires to act as paddles. My big bros idea from when he was a kid.

Fantastic group you have here.
Did someone buy it?
I dont see anywhere that says they did.
I'm sure he would give you first picks on it if you wanted it...well thats what I would do since you were the first one to ask for it.

I didn't buy it...the guy said he "wouldn't ship it" (some sort of a version of no I'd guess) anyway, he must not have heard the right numbers yet.

thats sux ....just get an old beat up snow board cut it in half. get a metal barrel thing, that look like heavy duty garbage cans. cut the barrel to the shape or ** tire and bolt it to the snow board and enforce it with some type of metal frame. there ya go a hom made ski!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lmfao if i really wanted one id try that.

*new question* seeing as how this is on the same topic I was wondering does anybody have any ideas of how I can build a front ski for my trike, without welding? and that is easy fairly easy and inexpensive.

Did you ever get to try the ski?
BTW, I am just south of you in Souris.

looks like a ok idea my bud had one with a shock mounted TO THE FRONT HALF OF THE SKI TO KEEP IT ON THE SNOW SO WHEN YOU HIT RUTS IT WOULD BE BETTER ON THE FRONT END... aND NOT ABLE TO PIVOT TO MUCH.. sEE THE ONLY BAD THING I SEE ABOUT YOUR DESIGN WOULD BE THE WIDE OPE SPACE WEAR THE TIRE MAY CONTACT THE GROUND.,. mIGHT FLIP YA.. LOL gREAT IDEA THOUGH AND ON ICE SHOULD WORK GREAT//
