I am reassembling my rear axle/carrier, and am unsure whether I can come back later to install the chain case. I will not have a sprocket on the sprocket hub/spide (whatever you call it). Can I come back later and remove the rear wheel, and slide the chain case on over the axle or do I need to wait. I do not want to put the axle and bearings in the carrier if I have to remove them later... Thanks, James

you should be ok...just need to take the hub and wheel off and you should be all set. You definately shouldnt have to remove any bearings again

Are you sure?
I thought the inner case needs to go on before the axle goes in because the hole for the axle in the case is not big enough to fit over the sprocket hub.

That's was I was thinking by looking at the diagrams... I don't have a case on hand to check it out... Can anyone clear this up?

actually, i think youre right. The chain case is on the left side of the bike and the axle removes from the left side of thebike after you take off the brake drum/ect...

Mine was pretty trashed so i jsut did away with it altogether...easier to maintain the chain, and no crud gets built up in there over time.

Yeah.. I understand... It's a full resto so I need it. By the way, if someone has a perfect one, I could use it....

I have received a couple good replies about this topic, but was hoping someone could tell me for sure.... I believe the axle hole in the chain case is elongated, and I don't know if this would let you slip it over the hub or not.... PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME A FOR SURE ANSWER.... I want desperately to make this thing a roller soon.... Thanks, James

From what I can remember it must be installed before the axle is installed. It don't fit over the hub.

Now that I am home I can say that for sure the chain gaurd has to go on first.
