beside the road this am found a honda 125 m for sale. Cosmeticaly solid, everythings there and in good shape. Been stored for yrs, supposedly was running when put away. Has good compression and spark, but won't even try to pop. 200$ is a no brainer isn't it? How about size wise giving it to my 7 yr old and passing his 70 along to his 4 yr old brother? looking for input

Sounds good to me, even if you only get it running, resale shouldn't be a problem....
7 year old on a 125? Doesn't sound like an ideal solution. Maybe in a few years that will be ok, but the 125 is heavy and fast enough to get a little kid in a lot of trouble.

Oh yeah, sorry, should have mentioned that... I don't really dig the idea of the youngster on the 125... I was on my 70 until I was 11 or 12.... He should be able to ride that 70 to it's absolute limits before being able to move up in my opinion... Otherwise why move him?

he's been on the 70 for 3 yrs now has it pretty well mastered.I'm very impressed at how well he rides but he does occasionaly show errors in judgement. Like when he showed his mother how he could wheelie the 70 across the driveway.... big mistake on his part....
bought that 125 for 150 bucks a few minutes ago, little rougher on closer examination than I first saw but I expect to have it running this sunday when I get a couple hrs.
I wouldn't put my guys on a machine I didn't think they could handle.gonna lock the 125 in lo-loc range for ethan and for ben we will turn the screw in to block how far the throttle will advance.

The 70 should be fine using the limiter. I started on a 70 when I was four, with the limiter screw almost all the way in. On the other hand, when I switched to the 110 (and my dad bought a 200S for himself) I was pretty uncomfortable, and didn't feel like I was in control for a long time. It felt like a little kid driving a big truck. Just keep an eye on him, they have a higher center of gravity than the 70s, which means more care needs to be taken when turning... Just be watchful dad... James

he has ridden my 200es around the house and in the driveway. WAY to big and HEAVY for him. and he's smart enough to be scared of it... what would you folks suggest the next step up in trikes from a 70 be? how much heavier is this 125 than his 70??

I honestly don't have specs here.... I'm sure they are available on the forum somewhere. I went straight to a 110 after my 70, and that is quite a bit of difference, in my opinion. Unfortunately there isn't much else in the Honda lineup to choose from. You could drop a 110 engine in the 70 I guess... Give the 125 a try if you'd like, kind of a probationary period. If he doesn't have it figured out then bring him back to the 70. Hopefully your kid can be honest with you and let you know if he is intimidated by the bigger bike. It's okay for that "fear" to last a few rides, but he should be able to find a comfort zone on it. If not, then you're in trouble. James

The 70 is 170 lbs. The 125 is 277 lbs.
Big difference but it all depends on how they are rode. My boy's first trike was a 185s that he started riding when he was 6. The only time he had any problems was at 10 yrs. old when he was cruising down the road in 5th gear & ended up too close to a sharp shoulder due to not paying attention. That could have been a lot worse than it turned out. (Bent rack, bent forks, bent foot peg & having to walk a mile home with 1 shoe on) But he learned from it.

Let your Kids ride what they got, You ride the 125 M with them. Let the oldest ride it with you around if he wants to give it a go. It will be like a Treat that Dad lets him ride his Trike in the Yard. He will want to ride it sooner because he will see you riding it.
I have a 125 M and Love it. Its a bit small for us adults but fun and going for rides with the kids is great. The oldest can ride it when you and he feel its safe. By Spring I bet he will be Bigger and have good skills.
How big is your kid and how long has he been riding?
I personally went from a ATC70 to an ATC 125M when I was younger. This was when I was roughly 10 years old or so. I started out on an ATC70 when I was about 7. Honestly, I would not have wanted it any other way. In retrospect, at 7 years old, I honestly feel I was too young to be on anything larger. A 7 yr old doesn't have the motor skills of an older child, or the size to handle a 250lb + machine.
Point being, I never had a serious ATC accident and I ran the path of ATC70, ATC 125M and ATC 250SX--then on to a 230 Quadsport. All of these switches were made at the correct age with the close guidance of my father and the Honda dealer.
I was a good ATC 70 rider as I entered a few county fair races on it. When I got the 125M though, it was a completely different ballgame--and this was even at 10 years old.
My $.02.

i have a 125m and im 13, i use to ride a 200m about a year ago or 2 and it was a little big for me. My dad who is 6 foot 1 and he rode my trike and he was just a little big for it but not much, so i think it would be a good trike for you and like meat-box said, and a treat for your son.

my 7 year old sister drives our trx 125 around on her own. im not sure how much different the atc's power is from the trx's, but its manageable for her. the only problems were shifting, most kids hate it. hence, polaris makes a killing on automatic 90cc bikes.
edit: 200$ is a no brainer!!!!!! im sure your son will love it. glad to know youve got your family into trikes.

good buy..... I don't know about 125's, but my 110 has a limiter screw that could help slow down things a bit... any way, if your kids are to small, you can ride it.... It's kinda fun to ride a smaller trike once and a while...

dude let him ride the 125, i started riding a 125m when i was bout 8 or so and like the first day things got a little hairy, but after a good day or 2 i was up riding it comfortable, its like when you learn to ride a stick shift for your first time, the first day or 2 get a little hairy but after that you get it down, if it was my kid he would be on the 125 the first day i got it running
