rebuilding atc110 engine

Me and a buddy are putting his engine back together on his 82 atc 110 and cant seem to get the cam in. We loosened the cam chain tensioner all the way out and it really didnt even move. We need more slack in the chain it seems. Any suggestions?

Try taking off the upper cam sprocket and chain off and then put the cam in and put everything back on?

just dont let that chain drop or turn the crankshaft while its loose or it might bind at the bottom.
