Was there any known problems with the '84 Big Red? Seeing how this was the first year that had shaft drive and reverse, and the next year they totally changed it.

Nope.

The 84 desing was a good one.

The engine was tested and true.. same as just about all the 185 / 200 cc honda's.. XR . XL.. ATC ....

The tranny and driveshaft portion was shared with the TRX 200 and the 200 SX..

The rear brake system on the 200 was better than the 85 and 86 250's. was part of the rear diff assembly.. water tight. the 85/86 rear brake setup sucks .

84 Was a good year.. was just lacking rear suspension.

Thanks, I have had better than half a dozen '82 and '83 Big Reds, But just picked up my first '84, other than a junker I gathered up a couple years ago. Keep the replies and opinions on the '84 Big Reds comming.

I like them. The only thing that sucks on them is the lack of a shock on the rear.

Speaking of the older Big Reds , I think that the '84 es was agreat machine for its time. That 185/200 motor design was a great way for Honda to make a better name for itself.People just needed an upgrade in HP and then came the 250's.Anyways on the '82-'83 200 Big Reds they had a kit that you could drop in the sub trans so you could get Reverse.Does anybody have one or have a clue on where I could get one.I have an '83 BR and really love the machine but wanna get the reverse kit. That was the only thing I did not like about the older models!!!

I had an 84 BR and Now I wish I would have kept it around, Now I am on the lookout for one again as I think they was a great machine from back in the day.

Good luck on your reverse kit sandpuppi,I think the name of the company that made them was paltech- (spelling) I searched for that kit several years ago and never found one,but in the process I heard from a couple dealers that they didn't work very well.
