Is there a way. I got a friend going to get an 82 250r today for 500 dollars. Me and him was wondering if he could buy the 83 tank and 83 plastics and make it sporty? I believe the tank off my 200x is an 86 250R, so he could get that off me for 25 dollars.
I dunno just a qyestion?

well i checked with him and its definate that he needs a new fornt fender.
so were thinkin maybe an 84 fenders and tank. That should work right?

Dammit!

I seriously doubt it. Not 100% sure though. I wouldn't pull the trigger on buying anything yet.

yeah I dont se why we couldnt just cut up our own holes for the fenders and same for the tank. But i thought maybe someone had already done it so i could ask.....COMEONE someone has....

You would be better off sticking with a stock tank and fenders. Putting just a skinny front tire like 350x'inNY has on his 82 R, and an extended swinger... those mods will make a lot of difference appearence wise.
I personaly like the stock look of the first generation r's just fine... I almost kinda like it better than the 83-84...

yeah i dunno he prolly will put the skinny tire on it.
Youve got fenders for only 70 dollars! OMG I guartee if he gets any different fender to make it sprty, he'll get yours! Heck i would like to have yours for 70 bucks

ive driven an 82r and i own an 84, and i can honestly say that a good driver could make the 82 turn just as good as the 84.
btw its good to have a forum about an aspect of racing other than flat out drag. cornering is a big aspect that could use more coverage.

Doesn't the later model 250R have air scoops for the radiator(s)? And the 82 is an aircooled... might not fit.

the 83 and 84 were air cooled but had the sporty look of the liquids

I like the looks of the 81-82 better than the 83-84R. They have their own oldschool racer look to them, i love it.

'83-84 250R front forks will bolt right up to the '81-82 R's right? I think this would be the first thing I would ever do to one. How much of a difference will the new forks bring?

im almost certain they wont. like i said before, the 81-82 corner fine, mabe get an extended swinger and an extended axle. they look amazing though, their so nastalgic and tough looking. i love the early 250r's.

well to address your first question:
the 34mm flatslide carb was put on by my bikes previous owner. ive since rebuilt it. the performance gains are good from what ive heard, there is more throttle response due to the flat slide. the bigger size allows more fuel and air into the motor, thus giving it more room for mods.
the carb is a great mod with a pipe, and also an afternmarket airfilter.
the dg exaust i have heard doesnt provide much more power over stock. my bike came with it, but if it were me id put the cash twards a port/polish/chamber rather than bling accessories.
i have crappy cheng shin 2ply knobbies on my bike, the flat ones, in a 20 inch. there a blast on dirt roads, because they slide and spin like crazy. very inexpensive tire. for a 2 stroke like the 250r you dont want anything such mudlites, etc. because their so heavy, it works the motor too hard. if you have the cash look at some razr's.
my rear axle is 6'' wider than stock, and my tires are bald. immagine how this thing powerslides

a port job is the name of a mod that you have to have done at a reputable shop. basicaly, they reshape the intake, and exhaust ports (holes in the chamber that let the fuel mix into/ out of the motor) so that the motor makes power more suitable for your perpose i.e. dragging, woods racing. assuming you know what a powerband is, the port job changes the lenth of the powerband, when in the rpm's it hits, etc.
there are a few types of port jobs, but the big 2 are drag and mx. an mx port makes more low, mid, and top end power, and basically makes the bike have more power over the entire range. a drag type port emphasises the top rpms, so that the motor SCREAMS in the high rpm's. drag ports sometimes make a bike a pain in the arse to ride on trails, because the powerband hits so hard.
chambering doesnt increase power, but is something good to have done while the top end is apart. they grind the inside of the ports so that the piston and rings dont catch it and demolish the top end.
porting doesnt increase top speed per say. it just focuses the power to your individual perpose. gearing and tires makes up speed. on an 82 though, i wouldent feel comfortable getting it past 65, so id leave the gearing stock.
since our motors are air cooled, the porting cant be insane, because it would make the motor run alot harder and hotter. talk to a shop or message me for more info.

350x'inNY, that 250R is sweet. I like what you've done with it. Kept it mostly original but added a few things. Where could I get a seat like that IF I decide to get a '81-82 250R. I also notice that you have the hondaline speedo hooked up. How fast have you got that puppy to run?

I think mine looks pretty sporty. I still have to add the Wescoast swinger and a extended axle that 350X'nNY found for me.

The seat I got directly from www.hi-flite.com It comes with the cover and foam, though the "older" foam seemed much dense than what mine is. Think it ran about $130ish shipped from Cali to NY
I only got it up to like 53mph... however, that was with the stock gearing and might have been the H-TraKs..... no... it was the Cheng-Chen's I ruined on the way to Trikefest. When I originally bought it, it had a 15T on the front! I ride it in the woods (just had the H-Traks on it at Trikefest cause I dragged it down the road off the end of the trailer on the way out and wore a hole in my 22" knobie.) so I put it back to the stock 13T front sprocket.
200Xman... you still got that front sprocket and chain? Or did you give it back to me at Holics??

Makes me want one of those more than anything else right now. I should of got that one for $600. I'm kicking myself in the teeth over that.

You talking about my tires??? Those are Ohtsu H-Traks. They are discontinued. You just have to hunt for them, or have people offer them up as trades! ;)
