Hey all,
Im down in Chauvin La., Last weekend the wife an kids an I went riding the bayous and streets. So far this is what Ive picked up in trash piles. a 73-74 Honda 70, an 80s 70,a Suzuki 50(alt?) with a couple parts missing, a Yamaha of some sort, its blue, frozen solid, and chain drive...200 maybe? no rear fenders or seat. A complete 84 110, I rode it yesterday! I know of but didnt get to check on approx, 5- 185/200s, a shaft drive big red that went under, and I need a boat for the last one...I knew of a 350x (VERY rare down here) sitting behind someones shed before the storms came. I went ask about it cuz i didnt see it . The fella told me he left it behind for Rita, and when he came back it was gone. Now you have to understand, we had a 9 foot storm surge down here, with lakes and marsh all around...I know where it went, I just cant get in that area....Oh yeh and 2 more for the golf cart fans..a 2001 350 Warrior for 500$ that didnt go under, and a 2005 Banshee that went under an the owner hasnt made the first note on it yet:p

1 more..a rolling chassis yamaha 60? tri-zinger

nahh I ALWAYS ask first or leave a note before I take anything.....all of this stuff is next to the road, waiting for the trash collectors to take away...I was just told of 2 kawasaki bayou 220s that went under but not too bad...for 50$....
The guy just called me, says his insurance paid him for em an I can go get em if i want, I already own 1 that needs parts.:naughty:

My opinion on this issue is this:

You should either restore each trike you received and re-gift it to it's original owner.

-OR-

You should sell these trikes one by one, for good money, and then present the money for each trike to each trike's original owner. Even the ones you paid money for can be sold for a much greater profit, then the greater amount of money can be given back to the owner's, minus what it cost you.

These people down there lost everything, and the last thing I think they need is to lose what brought them so much joy in their life... their toys. Think of all the kids that will no longer have those 70s and 50s anymore.... Ask yourself honestly what you think you should do... James

sounds to me like almost all of them were garbage to begin with. except the banshee.

I'd rather see them all picked up by someone who has some appreciation for them, than see them get scrapped or buried in the swamps.

If your house burnt to the ground - Would you want strangers picking thru the ashes where your bedroom used to be?-It may be all junk -but it 's still your stuff in your room.

Glad to see your getting some machines ,Here's my opinion, sad to see anybody go through that disaster and hopefully they can get things back to normal as soon as possible. These people have a choice and it sounds like they made it by setting these machines out by the road side to be picked up buy the garbage truck, most of them probably got an insurance claim/money for there lost/ruined items and have decided to use the money for other much needed stuff. So with that said, if you were not going around and asking for these machines before the garbage truck arrived, they would soon become a small part of the metal pile at the recycling center and no one would get to use any of these parts/machines to get running again. Just glad to see that they will have a second chance. :beer

Nice finds man, like ATCWithdrawals said. Rather see them in the hands of someone than in a metal heap. Thats cool to hear, well done!

me too if they were throwing them away i see nothing wrong with it, and atleast you asked before you took them.

The big picture is this: the trikes were probably not the only great find out there... Most likely you would see stoves, washers, refrigerators, and many other things that were nice and costly also... When was the last time your washer took on a personality of it's own. The last time your stove provided hours of fun and memories for your child. The point I am trying to make is that these guys could use some refreshment right now in the form of fun. If you were to give these people some real money from the sale of their fun, or hand their kid a restored trike and loaned them a 200x and said, "Here, take your kid out and get this off your mind", you would make a friend for life. Appreciation is different for everyone. You think that because these trikes were beside a bunch of other possessions at the street they were any less appreciated? Don't you think these people would want to keep this stuff? Chances are the trike is the last thing on their mind, but in hindsight, there are a lot of memories lost from these storms....

How about we all throw in some cash and get these trikes restored and hand them back over to the owners? I could find $100 somewhere... Who's with me?

Right with you--Hey Knuckleheads-Did it occur To any of you that these trikes are in the trash because the guy who owned it doesnt have a house to keep it at anymore??????????????????????

i think you are getting a little carried away. maybe some of these people were going to throw them away reguardless of the storm. anyway, this guy was simply sharing some information with us. it does not need to be turned into some kind of moral debate. not everyone cares as much about trikes as many of us do. some people are also insulted when you pitty them. its not like he is stealing from anyone, or breaking any laws.

yeah. i feel bad that they lost everything but still. IF they were just gonna let it get taken by the storm or the garbage man, then well i would do the same... lucky garbage man:lol: lol.

Yes true-its getting out of control-
Nobodys a theif-and Im not implying so-
I grew up in NYC-and have seen first hand looting - The wtc where people scavenging dead bodies for watches and rings , wallets- The Jewelry store on the first floor with the window busted and rolex watch cases everywhere.
Keep it in context. leave the poor unfortunate victims alone - They have enough to worry about.

Regardless of what everyone belief on this is... I'm still down for making a donation to fixing some of these and getting them back to the owners.... If of course the "new owner" agrees....

Your going to need A LOT of money to restore all the trikes he found. Like the others say, I don't see anything wrong with this. If there throwing it out, and you ask if you can take it, and they say yes. I see nothing wrong with this. Don't you think people would rather have there house back then there trike or quad? They need a roof over there head. I'm sure they can wait for a new trike.

No no no... actually the point is that there is a lot of talent on these boards, and if each member donated $100, or even half the members donated $100, there would be PLENTY of money to restore this stuff. If this were a housebuilding forum, then I would suggest we help with that, but that is not our expertise here. For some people on this forum, restoring a trike could be done in their sleep, so why not use that talent in a way that would help less fortunate people? We could actually give back to a community that needs it in the way we best know how....

If I were down there I would be scappin up any ride an owner didnt want. If I found something I would check the #s and see if I could locate the owner. As for the people who lost all their stuff. Too Bad disasters happen and there will allways be someone to try and capitolize on it. If you make all attemps to locate owners or if they are on the curb you have a right to them.
Just dont go onto peoples property because that is stealing. I say good for you and I think you should be happy with what you are doing. Allso it would be nice if you donated a nice trike to 3ww for an auction or raffle. It would be a good way for the site to get some cash. Ive been waiting for someone to donate a trike to 3ww for a raffle. There was a bad earthquake in Pakistan, I say we go there a grab all the oriental rugs that are on the curb:w00t:
If you come across a Vespa please let me know. I want one to restore and cruise in style.

And if someone here said they saw people pickin wallets from dead 9-11 people, your a sissy. If I saw that I would probably have killed any scumbag doing that. Then I would of took their wallet. It takes A sicko to steal from a dead body and they need to be Jolly Stomped. :w00t:
Can we see pics of these salvaged Rides??
