My daughter has a 1984 atc200x. I am in the process of rebuilding the top end. She smokes a little, so we call her "smoky blue". The kick starter had started skipping lately. Does anyone know What pieces will be needed to remedy this situation and will I need to split the cases to repair?

P.S. My 85 250R is runing quite well thank you. DG pipe and silencer, Mikuni 38mm FS, V-force2, Wiseco and a porting job that is just out of this world!

That you will need to split the cases to correct hondas weak kicker problem.

I hope it is just a alighnment thing on the outer case.

I also hope it's a alignment problem that John mentioned. I say this because if it is a internal shifting problem then you must split the cases. And if it happens to be a internal slippage problem then I have a OEM Kickstarter kit for your machine. This kit has all the parts that Honda recommends you replace while in there. FYI, to my knowledge the kits are now discontinued. But I found a couple.

Each year of the 200x's ( 83, 84, & 85 ) comes with different parts ( 3 different kits ). There is a spring ratchet and other gear ( s ).

If its an 83 there was a recall on the kickers. So you might have one that wasnt fixed if so just get a new kickstart kit for it.
