Ok. So. I know this is the wrong forum, but I know this is where it will get the most attention and response, so I decided to put it here. I was reading a post earlier:
http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=42152i
and it got me thinking. We trike enthusiasts wish a magazine would come out that was JUST for 3 wheeling. Well I got the idea that maybe this site should make a monthly or maybe bimonthly magazine or even newspaper. We could get voulunteers from the site that enjoy writing and are good at editing to be the writers and editors of it. And I'm sure that there are MORE than enough members on this site that would buy it that it would more than pay for itself. And at the same time that we trike enthusiasts are getting our jollies from our trike magazine, the site will be making money to support itself.
I just figured I would throw that out there. Sorry if it is stupid or lame.. lol.

Well yeah.. I think thats a given. But I think that the organizational and planning skills of the people on this forum are good enough to pull it all together. But once you have it going, and have everything worked out, it would be easy and a GREAT way for the forum to get money.
We'll see what Billy has to say about it. He is the one that needs to approve this idea.. lol.

I would subscribe to it. It should have a classified section. It would be great. By the way I love the SX. looks great

that is a really cool idea and could work if the senior members of this site all come together and make it happen

I like the idea too! I am not a senior member, but I do like to write.

Dude, what about an "E-zine"??? It seems it would be much less expensive......no printing, no mailing, no publication costs to deal with. Set up a website, charge a yearly subscription just like a magazine, have readers submit their own articles and photos, sell ads just like the mags do. Hell, if you can sell enough ads to pay for the site design and updating/modifying, and the web hosting fees, you might even could make the subscription free.

Ehh. I think I would rather have a cold, hard printed version of it. It depends though. Whatever is more plausable and Billy (or whoever is going to do it) is willing to do. I'll for sure the be "senior editor" because I'm good with grammar and stuff, I just don't like to write.. lol.
Its good to know that I'm getting positive feedback on this idea. I expected "thats so stupid!!" or "that would be way too hard!"

I had actually done some thinking on this... it would be a pretty cool thing to do...

There could be a classifieds section, "resto" section, section devoted to local gatherings, tech tips section.... ect....

Yeah. Pretty much all of the good tips and stories that came up on the forums, the restores that had been complete, the restores that are being started, the classifieds on the board (you could even charge people to put classifieds or ads for their business in there).. etc. I'm sure it would work very well if there is enough support to do it..

I must admit it would be very cool...operationalizing it would be difficult but it could be done...I'd prefer the paper version....Good bathroom reading:D

I'd prefer the paper to bring it places to read instead of on a computer.

Dammit!

I think you guys are kind of getting a head of yourselves...

Is this something that would definetly be cool to do? Yes.
Is this something that we could probably pull off with success right now? At this current time, Logically thinking, no.
Is this something that we could probably pull off in the future? YES.

Someone asked Dean Kirsten about possibly doing a 3wheeler magazine a while back. He himself said that the costs of doing something like that now-a-days is astronomical, and I dont doubt it. The setup alone is probably more then $10,000 I bet. Then you have to have dedicated writers, photographers, drafters, graphic artists, people you KNOW will be doing stuff every month on the deadline because if they dont you dont have a paper.

I'm not beyond saying it can't be done, but I dont think its logical to think about trying to do it now. 4-5 years down the road perhaps. If we go as far in the next 5 years as we already have with the site, I see it as a possibility.

When I hear "Ok guys, I have an idea" I generally think "uh oh, somebody gonna hurt themselves", but in this case it just might work. Logistically I'm not sure this is really possible due to the HUGE start up costs of a magasine, but what about contacting some of the existing 4 wheeler mags. about running a 3 wheeler story every month. Have a restory one moth, a trip story the next, and a yearly feature on trikefest. Something like that, at first at least, instead of trying to build a magazine from the ground up.

Well no. You guys are thinking full blown magazine. We definately couldn't do that at first, with all of the stuff it would require. We could just start out as a simple 20 page "magazine" stapled together. Just regular old printer paper. Its nothing elaborate or fancy, but its reading.. and its about 3 wheelers. I think that most people would still be interested in it. And if we get enough people, and calculate the right ammount per month for subscription, we could make it grow fast. I could see it going to a full-blown magazine within 2 years if we get enough of a profit from people on the forums buying it. But we would need to organize this first. We would need someone with a laser-jet printer that is willing to print off all of these magazines and mail them, 2 or 3 editors, and whoever likes to write. Of course the person that prints the magazines WILL be reimbursted for ink and paper. That is the only major cost of this, really. If you all are interested enough, I'm sure we could appoint a few people to get it going and see how it works. If it doesn't work.. well then it just doesn't.

I honestly dont think that there is enough market at this time to warrant the time and money spent on a hardcopy magazine. If every single member of this forum bought a subscription, (And you'd be lucky to get half, if that) I still dont think you could come out on top. Not to rain on anyones parade, but if your so gung ho write some stuff up and email it to me, and I'll put it on the site, you'll get full credit for it. The site is more or less like an e-zine, but I can only write and do so much. Anyone that wants to contribute has always been more then welcome to do so.
