i dont know if some of you guys remember but about 3 months ago i started my project bike called atc124x. its a atc110 bored out to 125cc, lumpy cam, 200x carb, DG pipe, ported head, 12:1 compression, .10mm shaved head.
now my problem, i bought a complete 200x front end and have found that the steering stem is too short by about an inch or two. i was just wondering if i could get some input into how this could possibly be resolved.?

Do you have the tube that was on the machine originally? If so see if a machine shop can make one the correct length for the 200x triples. ;)

I really don't know if this is possible or not.. but can the stem from the 110 be pressed out and into the X trees ?

No, The 110 tubes are welded in. Not only that but the plate they are welded to is thinner than the 200x triple bottom. The end result would be a tube that is about the same length as the one in the 200x triple now. :(

and what, they will get a peice of steel stock and machine the threads on?

You are correct. If I had my tap head working for my lathe I could make it myself. But I don't have the proper blades ( cutting the threads ). I know Hagen could make one, but I haven't seen him on here in a long time, and I have tried to contact him without any luck. He has some parts that I need ASAP.

also, what about cutting it in half, getting thick walled steel pipe that fits tightly inside the tube and then welding it up. the welding will be done by a qualified welder but its just a thought.

I'd just make a new stem. Get a piece of heavy wall aluminum pipe (Or even solid rod) and make it the same diameter as the 110 stem in all the right places like where the bearings ride and what not, then then just cut the threads on the end. Wouldn't be to hard to do.

yeh, ill just go down to the local machine shop and tell them what i need. should i switch to sealed bearings for the steering instead of loose balls? which kit should i get...the 200x or the 110?

I'd go sealed if you can. Which kit is something you'll have to checkout. Are the 110 and 200x stems the same size diameter wise? If so then just use the 110 bearings. If not, then your gonna have todo some searching around for a custom sized bearing that will fit the stem or make the stem fit the bearing, know what I mean?

well i had to dremel out the hole where the stem slides into so yes the 200 stem is bigger than the 110. ill go and do some measurements and then head to the bearing store. or maybe i should just get the 200x set. anybody feel like measuring what sizes i need on a 200x???

You will need to go with the 110 set ( bearings ). The reason for this is the housing on the 110 is smaller than a 200x.
If you have a tube made make sure you also take the 200x tripple with you. The part of the tube that slips into the bottom of the 200x triple will be larger than the main shaft. ;)

oh ok. so i will need to buy the 110 bearing set before i get the new stem made?
ill go in the there with the bottom tree, the stem and the bearinng set and say i want the stem to be 2 inch longer. be able to fit into the bottom tripple and the main shaft needs to fit these bearings?

I would bring in the 110 forks too. The 110 stem my be slightly smaller than the ID of the bearings. Just my 2 cents. That 110 is gonna MOVE!:w00t:

I agree 100%, take both set ups in to your machine shop and show them what you need. I would bet they can fix you up. ;)

hmm...might ring first instead of carting it all down there.
also, that would mean i can get it started without buying the bearings first dosent it?

when i but 250sx forks on a 110 i "noticed" that the 250sx triple was not even close to fitting in the 110 stock tube. So i cut it off and welded the 250sx version on there. Very drastic but functional.

well mine only took a little dremmeling and it slid straight in.
