There is a ticking (not a knock) coming from the topend. I have adjusted the valves 5 times. What could it be??

Have you checked your cam chain? Might just need adjustment. By the way, did you get the 70 parts yet?

Maybe the head pipe is leeking where it fits up to the cyclinder?

I took the top end off today, it seemed tight, I'll see if the tenshioner is working tomarro. No parts yet, but today was a holiday, maybe tomarro?

Exhaust leak hasent crossed my brain yet, the gaskets are only 3 months old....

Someone's planted a time bomb on it somewhere? lol! Seriously...valve adjustment, or sloppy cam chain. My 350, even with a fresh adjust done had a little ticking. Nothing to worry too much about!

My x does the same thing, even after it came back from the shop, I don't know what it is.

I've seen with aftermarket pipes (cobra) that the flange on the head pipe will bottom out on the cyclinder before the exghaust doughnut squishes all the way.We put in one new doughnut along with one already squished one (3 total) and it quieted it down.

Maybe when its running and cold, grab a rag and hold it around the head pipes up next to the cyclinder and see if it quiets down? Or maybe you could sprinkle flower or sugar around that area and if it blows off you have a leek.

Did you check and make sure you are getting oil up there? Just a thought... I've got an 1980 Honda 110 that ticks though too...

my big red ticks just slightly, you have to get right next to the motor to hear it, i don't think its a major problem though.

Sounds like a Honda 4stroke thing. Its done it ever since I rebuilt it (it had a knock when I bought it, the valve gap was no trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, 1/8 of an inch!!!). I put an all new topend on it. I guess I'll just ride it, well let my friends ride it I cant stay off my R!!! I've rode the X a total of 4 times in the past 6 months. I ride the R 3 times a week......

It's a long shot, but on my xr 500,, the decompression mechanism was messed up and was tapping the rocker,,,, I replaced it,,,,,,,, no more ticking

Both my 350X's ticked like crazy no matter what. I think it's just a solid lash adjuster thing.

What ticks on my '85 200x is the spark advancer. With a complete top end rebuild I could not figure out where the ticking was coming from...everything adjusted&checked twice.....I took the cdi cover off and ran it, that is where the noise was coming from.. the little flyweights & springs going "tattatatatat" and it was a brand new spark advancer. thats what I think.

The cam chain ticks on my 200X. The guy I bought it from said it ticked every since the day he bought it new in 85. It runs great.
