Does anyone here have a direct experience with E.S.R. Racing Products? I can't seem to find many folks who have dealt with them and I'm contemplating a purchase. Any info would be appreciated and helpful. Thanks gents! :)

ESR / Eddie Sanders is an old school racer from way back and his companies products and tech help are top notch. I run one of their 310 big bore kits on my R and am very pleased with it.

My brother has a esr pipe on his 85 r and it works very good and its smooth with no big peak in the powerband , it also fits very good and it has a nice sound

That's good input to know and by the looks of what he has to offer, it seems they have their act together. I'm interested in their 350cc kit with a bunch of other bells-n-whistles also for my '86 ATC "R".

I had originally planned on a stroker 380cc kit, but I don't care for welded-up cranks for stroke offsets, which I think that's their method for doing so if I'm not mistaken. In the auto industry we're in, welded-up cranks are somewhat short-lived, no matter how well it's done, therefore~ we have the luxury of being able to purchase billet steel cranks from different manufacturers with the stroke offsets already engineered into them.

Anyone have any of their stoker 380cc kits installed they care to share about?

Thanks for the help guys. :)

Falicon down in Clearwater, http://www.faliconcranks.com/ is about the ultimate in crankshafts. They'll do whatever size stroke you want on a billet crank if you have the $$$$.

I have an ESR lowend pipe on my trx250R, which I really like. I got it second hand though so I can't comment on their customer service but product wise, its very good.

Thank you guys for the feedback and the links to Falicon. These two high-calibur companies are the type we're used to dealing with in the HP auto industry and I'm going to give them both a call to see just how big this "R" engine can be built...reliably. I feel much better now about using an aftermarket billet stroker crank, rather than a welded unit. :)

Man, next riding season is going to be funnnnn! I've never ridden a "stroker" 2-stroke machine before, but with the long-stroke for torque and the high-strung nature of a 2-cycle, I'll bet it's a real blast!!! I figure that when the machine is hard to hang onto at WOT, that ought to be just about enough power... :naughty:

I had ESR do my portwork. They also bored, honed and o-ringed the cylinder(no more need for head gaskets). I have their ATC 5 pipe, silencer, and a 38mm a/s carb that they set up. My 86 r is a totally different animal now. They do excellent work IMO.

I'm going to eventually get a Falicon Super crank with a custom knife-edge rod for my 500R drag racer. Probably with a +6mm stroke or the max I can get without trenching the cases for it to fit.

a +6mm stroke or the max I can get without trenching the cases for it to fit.

That's what I was informed of. I'm also interested in the custom crank that you speak of with that +size rod length, combined with the E.S.R. big-bore set up with the .250" cylinder spacer, full porting, blah, blah, blah.. Without doing the math, that combination will put the cc-size over 390! I was going to step into the 500cc CR-engine, but from what I understand, the extreme engine vibration will kill the frame welds and the rider' arms/hands....

BTW- I did see that PSI Performance produces a pretty radical 425cc kit, where I read a review about it somewhere. I tried to go to their website to look it over, but it appears to be shut down??? Are they no longer in business or something??

Eh, I dunno. To me the vibration on the CR500 is kind of over rated. Yes, it does vibrate more then a 250R engine but thats because its not counterbalanced. I'd have a hard time believing that it would break frame welds. My aluminum subframe is still holding up great and the OEM steel frame is in excellent physical shape as well. You do notice the vibration when you get on it, but honestly after you ride it for a week or two you dont even notice it. I dont anymore anyways. To me, the CR500 is always going to make the same amount of power as a souped up 250R more reliably.

It could be over rated, I don't know, as I've never ridden a 500cc ATC conversion before, let alone a CR500 bike. I've done quite a bit of poking around on the internet about the issue and the consensus seems to be the same everywhere I look. As I said though, I don't know from direct experience.

I agree with you on the CR500 reliability... That engine is/was pretty much bullet-proof as long as you kept coolant and pre-mix in it.. ;)

Thanks for that link, they appear to have some pretty trick parts. With all of these options and choices, it's difficult to make the right decision, as I want whoever I buy from to have not only reliable parts/services, but also some good tech support as I learn more about these things and what makes the best combination.

In my mind, (if this is possible) I would choose a Falicon crank, with the Saber Tooth 500cc cylinder/top end, but with ESR porting/powervalve. I want the best parts in each field on my machine, manufactured/ported by the best in the business in each respective line of work. I don't know if my "suggested" combination is do-able, but I'll call around to ask many questions to find out. :)

Thanks again for the link.. ;)
