I have a 84 yamaha 225 dx with electric start and I can not get a spark . A friend of mine has the same model of bike so we switched the coil and the CDI box to see if that would work but it did not . I wondered if anyone had any experience with this bike to mabe give me an idea on what it could be and how to test it . All coments are welcome thanks .

I used a test light to see if the coil was getting a pulse . I jabbed the orange wire that powers the coil , and pulled it over and it will not light up the test light , any ideas ??

Check all of your ground connections and make sure all other connections are ok. Was it running before and just die??? If so the it is your stator coil and you'll need to remove the side cover to replace it. There will be a bunch of wire coming out of the left side case that goes to your stator and lighting coil and that is what you will need to replace. Just rule out everything else before you start tearing into your machine. Test everything you can and you should find the problem.

Yes the bike was running fine , and then I was haveing problems trying to get it started so I took the spark plug out and checked the spark and it was very weak , it used to have a rather large spark , and then it got weaker and weaker until there was no spark at all . I tryed a new spark plug and there was the same results . No spark . If you know how to test the stator please let me know .

I'm not to sure about the yamaha's but the coil inside the stator goes bad sometimes causing weak/no spark.

All grounds are good . I have checked all the wires for good continuity . Do you know how to test the stator before I start to pull it all apart .I would realy like to test it .

On my 125M it was the spark plug wire that went bad. Not the coil itself. But since you used another coil, I am assuming stator aswell. I think you could use the test light on the stator wires to, but I am not sure, someone else can answer that for me??

if your really in a jam, take your test light, ground it, and pull apart the wiring block that comes from your stator, there should be, 4 (?) wires in the block, 3 of them should light up when you pull it over, if i remeber correctly,

There is a Fuse inline which may have popped- It feeds the main switch and the cdi Box Go there first because it doesnt control starter circuits -only ignition
