professional porting?

May have discussed this already, but anyone know a good place for porting? I'd like to get some work done to the Tri-Z cylinder.

Wonder if any of the old school guys know any tricks for this?

Be sure to have your exhaust port polished while you are at it. Or, you could even do it yourself. Remove all of the carbon, the take a dremel with a sanding drum,and at a very low speed, remove any of the casting flaws. After that, get some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper,and spray some wd-40 in the port, and start sanding. Its wetsanding, just using wd-40 so you won't hurt your cylinder. After the 400,keep sanding until you reach 2000 grit. Then, break out the dremel, and get a felt tip, and get some metal polish, and polish it up till it shines. :D This works, and you will notice an increase in power.

Derrick I just started porting a 87 YZ-250 cylinder for a bike that I just got. I port all my own cylinders. I know you won't trust me to do yours, but you should. I have seen alot of my buddys send there stuff out & spend big money, then catch some serious roost from my machines. If you don't change the height of the exhaust port & just clean up the rough stuff, especially the top of the transfer ports, & polish the exhaust port you will make alot more power without changing the RPM range. If you want more top end power, double up your base gaskets. If you want more low end, have the bottom of the jug turned down. I always widen the top of my R exhaust ports to gain more screaming top end. The YZ cylinder I have does'nt have a bridge in the exhaust port, & that limits how much you can widen it. Not everybody wants more top end, but I love it.

Well, seeing as how I want to set the bike up for flat track, and I have to be able to beat you, then NO I don't trust you to do it! LOL

Since that YZ top-end is the same one as what's on my bike, you can let me know how that one works out. I think I want to focus on more power everywhere. Actually, i'm thinking of concentrating on low-end and mid range.

derrick,it is rob. dont know if you are interested, but dirt road cycles did both my banshees, he did a good job, his shop is up here by me and tim. his phone number is (330-435-6127). his name is jes. call and tell him i referred you, he will hook you up,i do tons of business with him. he is about 38 years old and been doin this stuff for like 18 years.i am sure he has the expeirence you need. he also can get that bored for 40 dollars. you can send him your jug. he wont rip you off.he is also really good at modified squish dome work too.
