Cold starting

All 3 of my Honda's (in my sig) start great when the temp is 65-70 and above, they are very difficult to start when the temp is below 45 or so. Are there any easy adjustments (air/fuel screw?) to make on the carb to help this? All of the carbs are clean, and no air leaks.

try switching to AMS-OIL Sythintic specifily desigend for 4 strokes with wet clutch's, its a 0w40 weigt oil, i ran it in my atc200 when it was -40 out it would start 3rd pull like a charm...

i have the same problem with my 250r, i think it might just be to rich to begin with and the denser air adds to the problem.

that's what i was thinking. I usually just give a squirt of starting fluid and get em started that way, but I would rather make the proper adjustments to make it easier. When it gets colder I'm gonna mess with air screw adjustments and see, just trying to get an idea bout what to do.

Denser air will make it leaner. Think about it.....that's why you have to choke an engine when it's cold outside but not when it's hot.

Check the valve lash.My 225 DXN did the same thing until i adjusted it.

They all should have a choke, choke operation usually hides the air/fuel screw setting because its so much richer than the regular idle circuit. Weak ignition will make them a blank to start cold because the fuel is less likely to vaporize when cold and the whole thing is harder to ignite.

I went out and bought a bigger pilot jet. I've heard some Hondas (even some modern quads) are a bit lean from the factory. I've gone up on my pilot from a 40 to a 42.

i did that on my 400EX, went from a 38 to a 45, and it's still a beast to start in the cold. I guess I'm gonna have to just stick the electric heater under them bout 30 minutes before i ride.

my 250r is the exact same way, i suspect weak spark. does anyone have any tips for upping my spark strenth? what should i adjust/re solder/ look at to get my spark really strong?
