Ok guys, my bro and I have been looking for a liquid 250R but honestly for the price and scarcity of getting one not ridiculously far away from home we have begun thinking of an 84 250R, the air cooled type. Anyway, we already own 2 trikes, a 200x and a 200m and this will be our first 2-stroke trike (I have a 2-stroke CR125). I really want to get this one because it is alot cheaper and alot closer than anything we've found so far. I like it, my bro isn't too enthusiastic though, he thinks that they are weak and will overheat but he hasn't actually ridden one....he refuses to, he just wants a liquid cooled one. So tell me guys, honestly how much difference does the liquid cooling make, is it worth not getting an air cooled one knowing if you do you probably won't ever get a liquid one (money reasons)? Also, how much power will an air cooled 250R make versus our other trikes? Any help to convince my bro would be great, hahaha. Thanks.

well i could give you a million reasons to buy the 84, but il just tell you to...

buy it!!!

haha i have one, and absolutely love it. the air foolers dont have as much power, but their one of the simplest motors to work on, and their reliable. dont take my advice for it, go talk to the dude, and go for a test drive!

The H2oer's main advantage is that they hold on to their power longer because the egine temp stays cooler. That's the reason they came out with them in the 1st place. The W cooler top end might last a bit longer because of the cooler temps also.

If your not racing it for long motos's (which I doubt hardly anyone does) it wouldn't make much difference to me which one I got although I would prefer the W cooled job if I found a decent one.

I have a few H2o connections I think (I'd have to check). Whats your price range?
I am from PA also, not more then 2 hours from you.

1700.00 max, no exceptions. I found an 84 for that price that is in decent shape and includes many accesories as well as extra parts. If you could find a liquid one for that price and in decent running shape I'd like to know. I had posted in the classifieds that I was looking for an 85/86 250R or a 350x originally. I'm seriously considering this air cooled one...but if you know someone willing to sell a liquid one at (or below obviously) 1700.00 then let me know. Thanks.

Hi I have both, an 84 and an 85, the liquid cooled one has alot more power than the air cooled one. But the air cooled one has been super reliable and is a pretty fast trike. also 1700 for an air cooled one seems alittle high. I have nothing against the 84 it is a good 2stroke to ride trails and do alittle drag racing on, but if you want the most power and a good drag bike then hold out for an 85 or 86. I hope this helps.

Yeh I know 1700.00 is high for one but it comes with lots of stuff that definately makes for the higher price....just so you know. Thanks for the info.

Hi, in regards to the overheating, i have found with mine that it only gets hot in the slower trail riding, but even then, just give her a break now and then and you will be fine :beer

Hey Huffa, how did you find that, are there classifieds around that I don't know about that you do in PA? I looked up your town as well, I have family up there in Bethlehem, PA not far from you.

how much more power does the water cooler put out than the air cooled? any HP #'s
would it be safe to say that the 85-86 flat out stomp the 83-84 or is it kinda close how about suspension wise are they about the same or does 85-86 handle better also?

i would think the 85-86 have better suspension than the earlier years. to keep up with the extra power.

not sure as though handling is any better, but suspension travel is alot greater on the water pumpers. Front and Rear is 9.8 inches of travel.

ah guess it doesnt matter much being that i already have an aircooler and im sure once its done it will be faster and better handling than my 200x. and my 200x is already a blast to ride.

k so i have a '83 atc250r and my riding partner has the '85. mine is bored over 50 (max 80) with an exhaust from well i think its from a '82 cause she don't bolt up lol, oh and stock sprockets (13t & 42t) did i mention bear claws?...his is done to the nuts, FMF Fatty, Boyesen reeds, brandnew stator, coil, exellent suspension and 13t & 38t oh and i think he's bored over like 20 or 30 (max 50) he has them Razors fer treads...Believe it or not i dust him at first but he has more high speed, on a short mx kindda track he can not keep up.
in a couple a weeks i'll b getting a DG pipe (not the pipe that i really want but it'll do, want the fmf gnarly!) can't wait ta see how she runs!!
corect me if i'm wrong, but isn't the DG pretty much the same as the FMF Fatty? as far as i know DG doesn't make different styles...
