A lot more information is needed to be able to give "Good" advice here.
Your age / size:
Your Riding history ( Have you ever rode a ATV before, ect ):
and the terrain your planning on riding on.
Your ability to repair machines ( all machines require maintance & repair at some point in time ):

With this info we can get a better grips on what might be a good machine for you.

Do you want a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? I think with you not riding them much before, you better start with a 4. Something like the 200X, 250SX, or 200E/ES ect..
I'm 15, 6' 4" and 270lbs and I ride a 250SX. I should probably sell the SX and invest in a 350X, but I am experienced. I'm not sure if a 350X would be too much for you or not.

I vote 250sx. Or if your feelin sporty a 200X.

I'd say a Honda 200X or maybe a 350X would be the way to go sport wise but an all around good bike would be a nice Honda 250SX.

I want a 2 stroke.

I want a 2 stroke.

Then you only have a few options. The 85-86 250R's are by far the most common and have the most aftermarket support. Tri-Z's are a bit more stretched out and would likely feel more comfortable for someone as tall as you. Tecate's are hard to find and hard to find parts for but they make great power.

Tri-Z's are awesome trail bikes. Good low end for a 2 stroke. 250R's can be equally as good in the trails as long as it's set up right for it (meaning, keep it mostly stock and maybe gear it down a little). Something as seemingly harmless as an aftermarket pipe can have a drastic effect on a 2 stroke bike's powerband and make it not as trail friendly as it could be. Take any 2 stroke that's ported and piped for top end and it's not gonna be a real fun trail bike.

Tri-Z or 250R. Air cooled R would be a great first trike.

Air cooled R's are usually cheapest to pick-up. Most start at around $500-$600.
Problem is, that at your height, you'll feel a little cramped. Even the 85-86 R's seem to be a little small. I would suggest that you try the Yamaha Tri-Z. They can usually be bought for $800-up.

Your age is a little concern for such a big bike though. I would never suggest anyone to get a 2 stroke for a first trike. Provided you know how to use a manual clutch, I would suggest an 86-87 200X. These bikes have more than enough power for most and great suspension too. After you feel comfortable on that, then I would think about upgrading to a 2 stroke.

The 84/85 Tecate is built nice for larger riders also if you really want a quick two stroke trike. Parts aren't hard to find for it at all contrary to what Dammit said. I have been able to get everything I want for my 85 without hassle and its really a great trike. You can usually find them for cheap in nice condition.

I would also have to say a 200x for a nice little 4 stroke. IF you must get a 2 stroke get a Tri-Z. Like already stated, they have tons of room and have tons of low end. My brother who is around your height loved the feel of it. I am about 5'10 and I also love the feel of the tri-z. I havent really had any problems finding parts for my Z, the 250r definetly has more parts. Good luck!

I agree with Derrick Adams you should get a 4 stroke for your first bike untill you learn how to ride. you should probably stick with a 200x or a 250sx. I had a 250sx for a little more than a year and i learned how to ride it pretty well. Then i got the erg for more speed so i bought a 86 250r. well even after being familiar with three wheelers that powerband still kicked my arse and threw me into the bushes lol. even today it sill surprises me sometimes

I say a 200x, I have one and love it, I have a 86 atc 310pvr, crf450r quad, and amzingly I still ride the 200x every for often, they are alot of fun and won't kill you if you make a mistake, unlike my 250r which will hurt you if you wreck.

I started on a 225 DX/ DR and I love them... It only took me a year if even that to get good. As far as two strokes, Tri Z all the way. If you haven't noticed I'm kind of a Yamaha guy.

i agree. im 15, 170lbs, and 6'2'' and i fit fine on my 250r. but if you havent ridden an atc before, or dont have alot of experiance, i wouldent suggest getting one. i have ridden for 10 years on everything from a 300fourtrax, to a yz125, and going to the 250r still scared me. you should do what i did, go and check out a few different bikes, and see what you like. call on a 200x, their a blast, i rode all day for a week, and i never got tired with it.

a 250r is an all out bike though, and it likes to go fast all the time. test out a 250sx or 200x and then if you still want more, look at any of the 'big three'.

oh, and :welcome: to the boards!

I've got 10 years of dirtbiking and fourwheeling behind my belt. Ive rode around on a 225dx for a few days and got used to it real fast. They can be real tricky to ride at first. But if you have experience, you can get used to anything fast. Just remember, trikes take a lot more body language to drive. You have to lean a lot. trike are so much fun to drive. I liked that 225dx better than anything i've ever drove. I've driven a lot of stuff too. Trikes own :TrikesOwn

I am 49 years old and a first time ATV/ATC rider. I'm 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. I have a 200x that is all stock. I got it last fall and did not get it running until this spring. It has plenty of power for me and it keeps up with my friend on his Blaster. My grandkids love riding on it with me.

A good starter two stroke trike would be a tri-zinger 60. Then just work your way up :D. But seriously a DX or SX or ANY trike up your way would be a good trike to get.

I would probably get a honda because parts are easier to come by. I don't know about the 225's are parts still easy to get for those?

215 lbs, 270 lbs, what the hell are you 15 year olds eating??!!! :wondering

Then again, my cousin is 15 and is 6'3" and 240 lbs, must be the steroids used in chicken/cattle these days, sheesh.

Back to the topic, I wouldn't start with a high performance 2-stroke trike. Get a 4-stroke for starters, I can't think of a better first bike for a large dude than a ATC250SX, plenty power and very well built. :beer

I say get a 350x, it's a lot of power but if you arn't a F***-up like a lot of kids our age (I'm 15 too) then you'll be fine. 2-stroke's are much more for expierenced riders. The 350x has plenty of power!!!!

As for everybody saying that 250r don't make good trail bikes, thats crap. I ride on crap so damn rough with mine!! Yet my friedns on 300ex's or 400ex's are trying to keep up. It's all about the rider, you'd be surprised what you can get ANY machine to do if it's in the right hands.

I would say a 83 yamaha ytm200ek this model fits me fine with alot of room and fun to wheelie on and get use 2. First time owners should not ride a honda unless its a good model.. I am the same age and wieght of you and i have had alot of fun with my bike so far and hardly any problems. so check into it man good luck triking brother! _Joe_

I guess it does not really matter what your first trike is as long as you use common sense. Please wear a helmet and protective gear and don't get too cocky.

Well I am big to begin with, I guess. But I weighed about 235lbs and was 6' 3" tall when I started lifting about a year and a half ago. Since then I have gained an inch, and gained alot of muscle (or so my girlfriend tells me). So between growing and lifting, I have gained 35 lbs. Hehehe. Too bad half of it is probably in my legs and chest instead of arms :(
