View Full Version : 110 ground issues?

You folks are probably tired of these questions but, on my 110 a threw the motor back together got some compression, it actually fired a couple of times.
problem is no spark. I can take the plug and put it against the frame and I get a nice blue spark but when I lay it against the cast iron cylinder head it becomes more redder and doesn't snap as much.
then when I put the plug against the aluminum cylinder head I get no spark!
could the bolts that hold the motor in corrode or oxidize enough to lose conductivity?
Anyone else ever have this problem? I swapped the coil and CDI back and forth,and they both act the same.
there is a ground wire from the stator that the old one didn't have should I just ground this out to the motor? or back to the harness. Ive got it to the harness now.

For giggles, get a hose clamp and 2 feet of wire, clamp the wire to the spark plug shell, and ground the other end to the frame. Fixed perfectly and permanently! Yes, oxidisation is a problem, especially on aluminum, al-ox is an extremely good insulator.

If youve got a wiring diagram I might be able to answer the ground wire question, but try the spark plug ground first, I bet that will work. The stator ground (for the coil that drives the CDI power) should go to whatever ground system goes to the CDI.

after thinking about it last night< I realized I didn't have another plug, even though it looked good, I had a spare plug for my 200s wrong plug but it fired just fine.
So, I got a new plug for a 82 the honda guy said the plug I had was for a older model, anyway the motor fired fine, now I need to get the carb cleaned up and see how she really runs. It does smoke alot, maybe gas? it ran at night so I dont know if its white smoke blue smoke etc. but at least it runs.
Now if it will shift, it may be worth fixing the thing up or if I decide to sell it I can at least get my money back out of it, as a running trike. Jim
