Well... besides the one Swinehart already has for me.... I NEVER want another Yellow Banana in my shop....

I've dumped about $200 into this darn 225DX and it STILL isn't ready to trade to that guy for his US90. Got the cables and such on it today (thanks again Howdy!) and I take it for a test drive, and the clutch was slipping in higher gears. I go and adjust it like it says in the book, and then it was grabbing way hard and about stalling out in 1st. Come to find out the centrifugal clutch is toast..... must be rusted up or something.

.. so I TRY to take the side cover off the motor to put in another clutch off one of my spare motors... what a fricked up Yamaha design.... got to take off the fenders.... take off the starter bracket... remove the brake cable and lever.... the right footpeg and THEN have to deal with stupid Philips head screws for the side cover! Luckily I had an impact wrench, else I'd have 12 stripped Phillips heads.... as it is, I got 2 of them that aren't budging with the impact wrench... can't get a 100% clean shot at them. I soaked in WD-40 and called it a night before I just pushed the thing out side or drove it off the waterfalls.

I feel for you when you have too many nights of frustration on the same machine.

Lots of times working on the Yamahas, I constently think, "well Honda would not have done it this way".

Another good example is the cheap way the rear mud flaps on the rear fenders are installed. Yamaha mounts them underneath the fender with flimsy steel (usually rusted by now) braces.

Honda mounts them on top, flush with the plastic and takes the time to make the mold of fender to match & except them. I'm sure that takes more $$ and time to do so. Just another attention to detail that honda is known for.

I guess thats why you always "meet the nicest people on a Honda" (remember that slogan?) because they are always in a good mood after working on them :D

Actually it was "Go little Honda, go little Honda, you meet the nicest people on a Honda!" ..........I remember that well on TV and that was before I ever drove a motorcycle in my life. In the late 60's I believe?

Hope your in the last phase of working on that thing as I'd rather hear from your US 90 project :beer

Bruce, I totally understand. I have worked on a quite a few of these myself. And I must say Honda's are by far a easier machine to do repairs ( when they are needed ).

ahahahah, i opened my side cover at least a good 5 times, to change the centrifical clutch, then the clutch springs, then the clutch plates, then i forgot to put a pin and bearing in , then the gasket leaked, so i had to put silicone, and such. Once * get the gay phillip skrews out the come out pretty ez if * have to take em out again. Just get a good big screw driver and when you turn push all your body weight into it and turn quickly and they come out good. lol and taking off the brake cable, and lever and foot peg and the one hex bolt off the oil filter, and have to do it a couple of times is a pain in the @ss.

I totally disagree with this one. Maybe on the 225, but the Tri-Z is TONS easier to work on than the 250R. What a nightmare, you have to pull the shrouds and tank to do anyhthing on that Honda. I can change the headgasket on the Z without even removing the radiator shrouds!

No me,you should have tried takeing a visegrip and clamping it on the head of the bolts that is what i did.It work petty good. The ones that broke off just stayed that way till i got the side cover off. Then i just removed the shaft of the screw with the vice grips.

After trying to keep our red-headed step child 225sx alive. I'll agree with not ever getting another. Just a big pita compaired to the honda.

Gotta dig the big picture above to make this thread five times to wide........................not.
