I took a look at my rear end oil tonight in the SX and found it to be whiter than milk  so right now it is draining. What is the best rear end oil to use?

A bottle of honda brand hypoid oil will last you a very long time... so far soo good in mine.

I've also used canadian tire " Motomaster " brand.. no probs.

I've found it easier to simply remove the fill cap.. and place an oil container under the diff.. and then pick up the front forks and ballance the trike on it's rear wheels.....

quicker than removing the diff cover place and drain screw..

ah yes so true. I just jacked up the front end and am going to let it drain tonight and clean it out tomorrow.

if the oil is white you'll probably end up by dumping it out a few times before it stays clean...but on the bright side it hardly uses any oil, a few onces.

If it's just milky, it will probably clean up with a few changes. But, if the water started any of the internals to rust You'll have to do it several times. Short ride, change it, short ride, change it......
I had a DX diff that the oil looked like chocolate milk when I got it. I'll bet you I flushed that damn thing with at least 3 gallons before it finally came clean. I even flushed it with diesel, gasoline, thin hydraulic oil & numerous types of gear oil. Used a squirt can with a flexible spout even. Hard to believe that something so small could have had so much crap in it.

We used 75w-90 synthetic gear oil in my dads SX. Only because thats what we use in our snowmobile chaincases.

Yeah, a 130 ml in the DX. I think my SX was a bit less, 110 ml if I remember right.
I use synthetic 80-90w GL5 Hypoid gear oil, BTW.

don't waste your time measuring the oil before you pour it in. put the bike on level ground and fill it up till it barely spills out the rear plug, all it takes is one quick squirt. to save time put the rear on a block and run the bike through the gears, let down drain/ refill / back on the block run through gears / let down / drain.......bla bla till the oil is clear.

Nobody went for the obvious joke and said Astroglide? :lol:Either no one else has a kinky sense of humor, or they were too emabarrassed to admit that they had knowledge of rear end lubeage. Either way, you're a brave man for admitting it Dammit! I'm gonna give that one 2 snaps up in "Z" formation. :w00t:

If you run the trike and then check the diff. oil , it will be white with air bubbles.
If it sets over night and is white you have water in it. And water only gets in one way through the drive shaft seal.

I run 75% 80W-90 and 25% Lucas Oil Stabilizer in both yammies. Great combo that has saved me a jeep diff in the past. Definitely will not disappoint you.

I have a quart of mystery oil here and I'm thinking about putting that in as well.

I have tried both the Lucas and Marvel Mystery Oil, and I prefer the Lucas. Superior water protection and better lubrication qualities. Good stuff.

I changed out the oil that I let set in the Differencial last night and it looked alot like a strawberry milkshake  so I changed it out once, went for a 5 or so minuet ride, changed it again (looked like there was only a little water left in it this time). I'll let it set again tonight and change it but I think I got her sitchiated. Thanks guys.
