It could be I don't know how to tell. Springs are failry cheap so would you suggest trying them?

What kind of oil are you using? Some synthetics could make it slip. If you have the clutch cover off, you might as well check the specs on the springs, or even change them since they are $2 or so each.

How about the metal plates ,,, if you used the old ones (I do if not warped-no matter what the colour) ,,,, did you scour or ruff them up with course sandpaper ( I ruff them both sides on the concrete floor ) ???

If you didnt soak them in oil before installing them, you could have burned them up when you used tem the first time.
I've never scuff up my metal plates on concrete and I done have any slippage problems, so I dont think (I could be wrong) that would be the problem.
If you've checked everything you can without taking the clutch cover off (cable, oil, etc.) Take the cover off and mic those springs and plates. You may have screwed the plates if they were dry when you put them in, but check it out.

ok, but it's acting exactly the same as it were with the old plates. We've had the cover off several times to set the freeplay and than finally to replace the clutch plates. If you pop the clutch it will rev high for a minute and than engage. I never even thought about the springs. I'll check them out today. Thanks.
