Would a carb size increase from 38mm to 39mm make any noticable improvement?
Would this mean more on top and a less abrupt low to mid?

I don't think you'll notice much of a change at all going from 38 to 39mm, unless you're changing the style of carbs also. For instance, if you went from 38PWK to a 39PWK, I wouldn't think there would be much of a noticeable change. But, if you went from a 38PJ to a 39PWK, you might be able to notice some improvements. Generally, the larger the carb, the better the top end will be, but the low & mid will be degraded somewhat. However, the PWK's "D slide" is supposed to help alleviate the loss of low & mid-range while improving throttle response at the same time.

i went from a mikuni 38mm on my lt500 to a 39 keihin pwk and i could feel the differance. it has a better throttle response. and starts a lot easier.

What about the power on your LT500...did it change any?
