I took my 85 Z out today after installing dual stage carbon reeds, a smaller main jet (460), and my new Blue Marble at 42:1. For the first hour or so I didn't have any luck with my Z, it was running HORRIBLE  ! I thought OH CRAP because I had read some of the bad stories about Blue Marble. I was still having trouble when I met a guy my age on a YZ250 dirtbike. His dad was also out there and he began looking at my Z. He was asking alot of questions and then told me that he has been a Yamaha mechanic for the last 15 years. He was looking it over trying to figure out what the problem was when he noticed the Champion plug. He asked why I would run Champion instead of NGK. I told him the Yamaha place was closed, so I had to get these from Autozone. He dug around in his truck and found me an old b8es that he had took out of his son's YZ250. As soon as I put that plug in there my Z came ALIVE :w00t: . The guy helped me get everything set right, including where to set my needle and air screw. For the next hour I could not help smiling while I screamed all over the track and trails :naughty: . I also noticed that the longer I rode the less smoke came out (I'm assuming due to BM). All in all it ended being a very good day. My Z is finally starting to live up to all my expectations :D :w00t: .

Champion is the worst thing, bar none, in spark plugs. Their manufacturing processes are terrible.
I installed a set in my V-6 van, it ran like crap. Took them out and measured the resistors inside, they should have been about 5000 ohms, but ranged from 5000 - 50,000 to one even being open. All 6 went in the garbage.
I talked with an Autolite engineer (engineer, not salesman) who explained the differences between Autolite and Champions manufacturing processes and without going into the grubby details, Autolites processes are far superior.
NGK ranks right up at the top in my experience.

Id say your bike needed a plug change more than a plug brand change. Send me your old Champions so I can sand blast them and run them in mine! I need N3C!

The ones he gave me are N2C? I used 2 of them and the plug would be black on one side and white on the other. I still have 2 in the package and figured I'd keep them incase I ever really needed one and didn't have an NGK handy ;) .

I just put those power sport champion plugs in my 185s and 200s and seems to run great and fires right up.
Wal-mart had them on sale for 2 bucks a piece and decided to give them a try.
Had NGK resistor plugs in them before.

YEH go with the NGK.champs suck.
also change that blue marble junk also ** you engine ends up to be a pile of marbles. get a good brand like BELRAY H1R, AMSOIL. i just changed my sons kx65 oil to amsoil 0W-40wt and believe me it made a huge diff in clutch performance. also i will be changing to amsoil 2 stroke mix as sonn as i run out my H1R batch. to try the amsoil , but i would definately go with a B9EG plug in you machine and a good brand 2 stroke oil. and do a good air filter cleaning also.

Youd think between my Champion plugs and Blue Marble oil, everybody would be stomping me out there, and that it would be MY equipment that would need to be towed in. I must be the luckiest bullet dodger in the world!
Sorry man, but Ive run Belray H1R, and yes its good stuff. Not as good as Belray MC1. And yes, I ran MC1 for many years. Its good stuff, but nowhere near as good as Blue Marble. But then, others cant expect these kinds of results since Im the luckiest guy in the world.

I wasn't trying to start a flame war, I was just telling my story. I have used the Champions and just didn't have any luck with them. TimSr you said yours were the "3" so I double checked and mine are the "2" so maybe that was causing my problem? Anyway alls well that ends well.

I'm in the aircraft business and all of our engines run champion shielded spark plugs... They are top notch in my book....Chris

Come on guys, stop with all this kiddie stuff. This is supposed to be a board we can come to and have a good time, but lately its become a flaming, you said he said, go f'k yourself type of board. Yes, I have seen many post by TeamGeek6, I know the story but you guys are attacking him from all sides, he cant even make a simple post without someone being a smart arse. Let it lay for a while and lets all enjoy talking about whats important to us and what the board was intended for.... TRIKES. :TrikesOwn

I use Champion plugs in my cars and lawn mowers all my life with no issues ever. The only time I see problems with Champion plugs is in motorcycles & asian lawn mower engines (Kawasaki & Honda). I think the only reason the Champ's don't hold up in bikes is either something to do with the coil volages burn them up fairly quick or the vibrations from the engines. That is just a guess but as I say run them in cars up to 100000 miles no issues. Just my opinion on the subject.

i would put a champion spark plug in my car if they were free. strictly bosch platinum 4's for my car and ngk for the bikes. imo champions suck and i have 3 fouled crap ass ones as proof.

People are entitled to their opinions and to use whatever products they wish, but I wont listen to somebody say Im selling people an oil that will trash their motor without answering it. Once again, see y'all at Trikefest next near. Ill be running one of those snail-slow stock two stroke Tri-Z's with Blue Marble at 50:1, an N3C Champion plug, and just for all of you Ill make sure I run some of that synthetic car oil that supposedly makes your clutch slip too. See you at the MX track! Should be an easy win for anybody by all armchair racing accounts! Do I need to throw in giving you head start? And for you Ohio area guys who seem to feel Im running substandard junk, Ill be at Sunset Ramblers all weekend. Im beggin' you to shut me up!

I've thought about trying the Blue Marble but my trikes run flawlessly. Im a fan of the old saying "If it aint broke dont try and fix it" What would you say Tim? My trikes all run top notch on Caster 927. Would I see any improvement as far as performance by switching the B. M.

I hate champion. I only run NGK because I tried to run champion but for some reason it just didnt run as good. But my grandfather swears by auto lites and my dad swears by champion so its all about the motor in my opinion.

I had an experience with the Blue Marble early this year in my Tri Z. It made the Z really hard to start. I was fouling plugs like crazy. Tim was right, the Z had to burn off some carbon deposits before things would get better.
Once I went through 2 plugs and about 3 hours of ride time the Z was reving like crazy and running the best I have ever experienced. It was definitely worth it, but it can freak you out at first.
I may use it in other bikes...but you may have to be prepared to deal with some trouble and plug fouling in the beginning. I say its worth it and it will make a difference when its all done and said.
You can search for my frantic posts on here and see that the plug fouling is common and will go away after some ride time....again my Z motor feels better than new now....runs much cleaner, revs like crazy and just feels more powerful alll around.

The big thing that I like about blue marble oil is the extremely low pollution emitted from running it. The two cycle engine is a dying breed and hopfully this oil might have some impact on keeping it around!

There isnt anything wrong with Blue marble oil or Champion plugs.I ran blue Marble for the first time a few weeks ago.I mixed it at 40 to 1. I ran it in my Blasters,Tri-Z,chainsaw and weedwhacker and had no problems.I didnt reduce any of my motors to marbles,it actually seems like pretty good stuff. The only reason I'm sticking with Maxima is b/c it smells good,,,but not as good as Klotz.
As far as sparkplugs go, I've used NGK's for the last 10 yrs and before that it was Champion,b/c thats what my dad used.Any name brand works just as good as the other. All it has to do is ignite a little bit of fuel. As soon as the plug starts to foul, then everyone swears up and down that its the manufatures fault for making a chitty plug,When in reality the guy problably mixed his gas incorrectly, has jetting issues,or his machine is just a flat out P.O.S.
I remember back in 2000 when GMAN and myself rode with Nate(TRIKE on 3ww) for the first time.He had his trxr and me and G had our blasters. Nate's trxr fouled 6 or 8 NGK B8ES plugs. He just put the carb on it or something like that so I dont know if it was jetting or what. He was cussin and swearing all day at it.I put the icing on the cake when I took one of his fouled plugs and threw it in the blaster and it fired right up on the first kick, lol. Before he left NY for Ohio,I cleaned up some of his plugs for him in the blaster. After that day Nate was known as B8ES. Also my dad would foul plugs in his old kdx200 once in awhile and we used my RM80 to clean them up again. Guys, send me your fouled plugs so I dont have to buy new ones :)

well, the truth is....NGK is the easiest plug to foul, period. champion is one of the hardest. the reason is, is that under a microscope the NGK has very porous ceramic around the electrode, whereas the chapion has much less porous ceramic...othe rplugs im not sure about but we have literature for ASE stuff in our automotive library at my college....i always wondered why my dad didnt like them when he raced sled back in the day, so i researched it....i use br8eg's in my R and i havent had any problems, but NGK's are not going to be reliable if your bike isnt very close to being in tune...

I hate to bring this back up, but today I traded my N2C for N3C because that is what TimSr uses. HE DID NOT TELL ME TO GET THESE, I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD TRY WHAT HE USES. I left the gas on my Z and it has been sitting for awhile so I drained the carb and put one of the brand new N3C in. It started right up but would not rev up right. It acted like the carb was dirty. I messed with it for awhile and then put the old NGK that the dirtbike guy gave me back in and it started, idled, and reved like it's supposed to. Now I don't why MY machice doesn't like Champion, but I have had absolutely no luck with them.
