200s Restoring Cheaply~! (Update:Page 3 Has Shifter picture!)

I have a 200s with no shifter,tires not hold air,break lock up when pushed(have to hit them with hammer and they work again lol),no recoil starter,no headligh,wrong fender on rear-broken,broken front,amazing this thing started yesterday by me pulling it with my 200sx(quad)
i want to know if a 200x shifter will work on this 200s and any other parts

I would imagine that the motors on the S and X are pretty much the same. So to answer your shifter question I would say yes.

Huffa had my 200x and mx600's 200s at his house for a while. He was switching parts around on them :rolleyes: So he would be able to answer your questions better than me. :lol:

I say that if you are not mechanically inclined, part it out. It all depends on how deep you want to go, and how much time and $ you got to drop on it. Like anything else, it depends on what you want to screw with..... or not.

Well then fix it up. It was cheap, so you can have it in running condition without too much work I bet. And then after you get it running and get bored of riding it around, you will want to tear it apart and then you will dump a ton of money into it. Thats how it always is. I would keep it.. but thats me. Taking another Honda trike off this earth and ruining it by selling all its parts should be a sin!

Lets tally this up now.

Smokes bad - that could run into a couple 100 right there! Might need new piston, rings, a bore job, valves could be bad, valve seals, timing chain etc, etc
Throttle sticks - usually no big deal and usually it's the cable or the assembly needs cleaning
No recoil kit - or assembly do you mean? If no assembly I guess your talking anywhere from 20-40 bucks or so.
No shifter - no big deal at all, you can find one easy
No brakes - they (assemblies) need a good cleaning and cables are probably sticking. They may cost you nothing to fix, if your lucky!
Broken fenders - not that big of deal. Maybe around 75 total you could get front and rear?

1st thing I'd do is decide what the engine needs to be healthy again and how much $$ it will take. Does it smoke all the time?

well it originally had no compresion and we tried to start it with a rope and could cuz it had a stuck valve apparently,then yesterday i pulled it aroud wit my 4 wheeler and we shifted and popped the clutch sortof and it started and wouldnt stop it was awesome and then it ran. yes its like a fog machine of smoke!
yes smokes every second!

the breaks work but they stick locked and * have to tap it with a hammer where * tighten the flybolt things

Well it's bug season anyway and your fog machine should keep them away!! :lol:

It might very well need a good top end job. You might be better off finding a whole top end on ebay thats in good shape? here is one but the guy says it does smoke but has great compression. maybe all it needs is the valve guides and seals?

omg seems like it has compression now .i tried to pull start it wit a rope tied to a wrench for a handle and it was hard and it stoped and i cut my hand lol

Sounds like the condition mine was in jsut about... but mine had a pull start. shifter for it is about 15-25 dollars. luckly mine came with two compleate engines as spares. we took the better of the two engines and tore it down compleatly. put in a wiesco piston bumped it from 192-198 i think but it was a great investment from ebay for 54 dollars. and a carb cleaning and a carb kit if needed we are talking my trike runs first pull now and we only spent like 200. Recoil might run you more but look around for a junk engine with a recoil intact because sometimes the recoil can be a pain to put together.

the shifter you will need to remove the engine pull apart the trany and replace the shaft for sure unless you want to cheep out and just weld an old shifter onto it ( i dont recomend)
the fork is bent right?

currently the set up i have on my 200s will blow away the 200sx hands down just letting you know the potential of the 200s

i aint taking apart no training lol!ill have an extender welded then a stock shifter put on or something! lol i have at least 10 more pics but im on dial up and i hate to upload lol!

wat do * meen by fork is bent... i dont think anythin is bent forkwise(shiftfork or anything)

also locally i can get a yamaha 225 shaft drive,electric start,nice trike for 600 bucks,would * do it?also should i put money into this or get it running and sell it to my ******* poor neighbors and buy a cleaner bike(maybe a 200x!) i dunno but thanks for all the input any more specialized pics you guys need just say so

To fix the shifter you don't have to take apart the trans. That shaft goes though the cases, you will have to remove the right side cover and both clutches but that is it.

As for fixing it up, it is up to you, but if that dx is in nice shape you might want to think about that.

but it will done and i have an old yamaha shifter that is broke off at the end that ill have welded on there!

Update:

Kill Swith-Got it workin today,cut wires will do that!
Shifter-Still Visegrips
Engine-Seems to start easier,can be pushed to start instead of pulled by another atv
Tires-Will buy slime to fix them,front stays up already
Shifter and Rod-Longer rod will be placed on with a pin thru it and shifter will be eitther welded or pin thru it also

thats all folks

Ohh and BTW engine still smokes but i think is starting to clear up a bit
