I'm looking for a front tire for the SX project and the front max looks really cool. Who has had experience with them?

I have one on my SX. Its a very nice tire. Great for the front due to the great turning traction it has. I'd recommend it. And I believe bigredhead has one on his SX as well.

I like the stock tire better, as the stock brakes better. the front max is better for cornering slightly, but the braking is more important to me as I almost never the rear brakes.

Thats the opposite for me. I NEVER use the front brakes. The rear brakes are all I've ever used, and will ever need. Although I see where you are coming from. I never thought about the braking ability of the Front Max.

try and use the front brake, much more powerfull than the rear and quicker stops. I went for over 6 months without a working rear brake, never missed it. I used to be the same as you, untill I crashed into a tree in the snow where my friend who used his front brakes didn't.

Well at the moment, I have no front brakes, and I don't even miss them because I never used them anyway! I personally think the rear brake has more stopping power, because you can slam the brake and the rear tires will just lock up and stop moving. Whereas if you do that with the front brake, you have to hold it tight or it is going to turn sideways and probably flip you.

the front brake is good in drags though. You can hold it and give the trike gas and have the whels spinning when the light goes green.

Haha. But why would you use an SX in a drag anyway?!! lol

I wouldnt laugh. I took 2nd place at the drags out of 12 or so quads. lost because I poped a wheelie and it put .2 seconds on my time.

I was just messing with you.
But what kind of quads were they? And what all mods have you done on your SX?

They ranged from kawasaki 700 Prairies fully modded to grizzley 660's fully modded to your plain jane polaris trail boss. I want to also add that it was a timed event where they let the slower person go first then release the faster one so theoredically they end up at the finish line at the same time. But you have to catch the slower quad, beat it, and still be under the time you gave them. Its tough sometimes. No modds just completly stock

Come on now, you beat a modded grizzly and a prarie with a 250 SX?
Then it was rider reflexes at the start I would believe and not because the SX motor is potent enough that it could actually beat them.

Your right. I only beat the Prairie  the grizzley beat me. Like I said before it was timed. You give the light operators the time you think you'll come close to without going over. Then they release the slower person then the faster based on the times. Makes it more fun in the utility class.

I never ran a front max on my trikes but when I used to race desert on my four wheeler I ran front max tires and found that justbeing close to rocks flatted them. I never flatted so much on all other tires combined that I've used. They handled well but wore out fast also. Imust have had 20 plugs in each. I would look at other tires if it is rocky.

I love mine on my X, but get some boots because when you hit a small mud puddle or in the sand and ** turning it throw sand up at ** foot bad. I had a few problems on gravle roads and vans.

Well based on what you guys said (and what was available) I went out today and got a Maxxis Front Pro. Here is a pic. Hopefully I have it mounted tomorrow with the new front end on.

Keep an eye on your forks once you mount those puppies..... some tires balloon out too much and rub on SX forks... the mud devil wore a nice groove in mine before i got to changing it.
I like my front max... my front brakes are not very good.. so i mainly use my rear, i don't really race with my SX.. the only time i really use them it to get me to a complete stop on a hill etc.... But brakes are a must.
the middle thread wears before the rest naturally.. But in snow it's awsome.

I doubt it will rub. Its a 21x8x9 but I can relate to the tire rubbing. My fat knobbie front tire did that so I had to pump it up extra hard so it got skinny enough.

I just can't get used to the look of the max, it may handle great which is most important but the looks of it is just plain boring to me.
I went with a Fox A/T Radial 22X11X8 on mine.
Maybe someday I'll get to ride with one of you SX guys and we can do a direct comparison of the two tires. Our own little tire shootout :D

I love to get together for a shootout. Ever though of going to the drag races?
The results might be a little off because I should have a X front end on by then.
