I have seen a 86 250R fitted with what i was told a 1988 TRX 250R swingarm.Has anyone else seen this mod ? and is it a straight fit or is modding required.
Cheers

hey Tony
it is 1" shorted that the R swinger also it has a solid part where the rear engine mount sits(where the swingarm bolt goes through) i suppose you could chop this bit out but 1" shorted could be a problem keeping the front wheel down....ps has that atv mag turned up yet????? :D

I disagree on the swinger not being any good. (for now). 3leggedog just put one on his bike. It does seem to wheelie a little easier, but it also turns on a dime. We'll see how it does on the track this weekend.
Either way, it looks TOUGH!
Alot Of People I Know With Banshees And Trx R's Run A Shorter Swinger. Its Suppose To Hook Up Better. Whether Its For Racing/ Or Flat Track. The More You Tuck It In The More Weight You Will Have On The Rear Tires.

i love it!!!!!the turning radius is amazing.also i ran 200excellent,charlie,on his raptor and had little problems with the front end coming up.it will wheelie in 6th gear now but it's not too big a deal.
for installation:with the old mount removed, first you need to make two pieces of steel that fit the bottom rear motor mount.the motor should still be in the frame and tightened with the other three mounts for poistioning.under the rear of the motor the frame will have 2 triangle frame braces.hold one of the new motor mounts up till it touchs the frame and motor.run the bolt through there with some grease on it to mark the location.drill it out and repeat on the other side.then just bolt it together, weld it up and your done.you will have to buy a the right dog bone bolt for the linkage.thas it.
looks great and saves you 6lbs.

Interesting,do you have a pic i could have a look at ?
Is it only the 1988 TRX swingarm that is suitable or will an '89 do the job as well ?

I myself wouldn't use a shorter swinger on a atc, they are very wheelie happy as they are. maybe with leading axle front forks(mugen adj. compression, that was availble at one time) the shortened swinger wouldn't be a bad idea. I read that one honda factory racer used a -1 swinger, I forgot who, maybe it was marty hart, but also those guys had custom frames and leading axle forks, so who knows what kind of weight setup they had. I know with a +1 my atc tries to throw you clear off it, a -1 would be uncontrollable and the front tire would spend even less time on the ground. also the 89 swinger is shorter than a 88, by 1/2", not a good idea.

i like it.i do have a little trouble keeping the front wheel down but not enough to complain about.and thats with a 12 tooth front sprocketand 18 inch tires.i don't think the shorter swinger hurt it at all.
