Hey guys. I'm bored while I'm waiting for my parts to get here to finish up the SX project, so I was going to pull out the carb, clean it, and re-jet. Mad max has the same things on his trike as I do (open airbox lid.. Supertrapp), and told me that he runs a 140 main jet, so I am going to put that in there. Do I just get those from a Honda dealer? How do I pull out the carb. Like.. how many bolts or w/e do I take out?? Just figured I would ask before I go out and get aggrivated trying to do it the wrong way.. lol. Thanks for any help.

1st I want to say is that the pipe looks great! Your Sx is coming along just great.

The carb is very simple to remove. You can take it out by not removing the air box but remove it anyway and check the heat sheild screws on it as 2 of mine out of the 3 were missing. I put slightly larger threaded ones on and they are now better then stock. I used locktite (the blue color) also. I also totally remove the side boot that goes from airbox to frame intake just to clean. make sure you mark which end goes where or if installed backwards it can buckle up a bit in middle. I always use finger nail polish to mark things like that.

Next just loosen the F&R boot clamps on the carb boots and take the back boot off then wiggle it back & fourth or up and down till it slips out of front boot.

I think I brought mine up through top (not positive though) then took plastic cable linkage cover off and removed the cable. Make sure you have the slack adjuster on thumb throttle turned all the way in to give you as much slack as possible or totally disconnect it if you find there is not enough slack at carb linkage to pull it out. Study how it goes on linkage so you remember when going back together.

I think????? there is a rubber boot that fits into a cut out on the carb part that the cable goes thru and that can be a bit tricky to get back in right so look at that good before you take it apart also.

WD-40 the boot lips when putting back on so it slides easier. Some Hondas have a notch on top of carb with the boots or boot having a small cutout that fits into notch. That way you get it alingned perfect.

Thanks alot Huffa!

Should I just go to a Honda dealer and ask for a 140 main jet for a '85 250SX? Or..??

Yep.. honda has them.

If you have small engine shops around or ATV dealer in general.. with the carb model ie: mikuni or kehein etc.. i bet they have them too. Call before you drive !! lol..

OOPS, forgot about the choke cable .

That comes out of the carb by turning the plastic nut with a 12 or 14mm wrench.

Don't buy the jets from the dealer... you can save alot of money by buying them elsewhere... do a google search and you should find a few places.

I just unhooked the choke and throttle cables from the handle bars (in other words left them on the carb), pulled the rear boot back, slid it top first out the right side of the trike (slid it between the frame and exhaust). Took me 3 hours to get it out, cleaned and put back in with this method the first time I did it. Now im down to about 20 minuets.
