One of my starters doesnt work so I'm gonna take a look inside. Do they have rebuilds for these or do you have to flop a new one in there?

Have you tested it using juper cables directly to the the starter? If you have and it don't work then most likely the brushes have went bad. You can get new ones from Honda. If the armature is bad you might as well find a new or good used starter.

I gotta get a new one. The inside was rusted all to hell and froze up.

If the windings are ok, the rust can sometimes be cleaned.. new brushes installed and she's good to go... but it depends on how bad it really is.... make sure it's really toast before you go looking for a replacment.. those suckers go for alot .. even used ones.

Just a thought.. but check with vaccum repair shops.. or places that rebuild alternators... Electric motors are tougher than you'd think !!!

I have rebuilt worse ones, and they have worked fine. But the choice is yours to make. ;)

Rebuild it if you can.It will be cheaper to do than buy a new one.

well since this went to a spare engine I'll wait till I have to use this motor then take a starter from the engine that broke. Anyone want a Starter in need of repair? :naughty:

yes, I would like it. Maybe between the junker I have and yours I might be able to make a decent back up starter motor.

I'll gladly cover the shipping ,,, sending a PM shortly.

How can you tell what is bad...the brushes or the armiture? I cleaned mine up and hooked it to a battery and still no joy.

I had a noise cone bearing go bad on one. All it would do is click/click.
So I thought something like brushs, armiture or relay but it was just bound up.
That nose cone bearing is no longer available but I did get a very close match from a bearing company.

Almost always the brushes at fault..

If you have a multimeter and know how to use it.. do a google search on Permanent Magnet Brushed Electric Motor Testing .. or any variation of that.. it will have alot of info available on how to test it out.
