Well, got the speedo installed on the 84 R today. Used one of the 2 200x kits I picked up since they are literally identical (the R and X kits).
Got a "Honda ATC" speedo head on there now but we will be using a "red faced" one once it comes in (should be sometime next week).
And folks, please don't ask me how fast it goes... :naughty:
The man with a crap load of Hondaline stuff, your truly,

Yup... the tripmeter is a little hard to reset, and the speedo only kicks in at about 8 mph... but it's going on the SX so it doesn't matter :D:D:D

You need to send that speedo to Swiney... he can take it apart and have it cleaned up/repainted on the face. :beer

Might do that, I'm to scared to brake it if I take it apart. I broke an old yami dirtbike speedo when taking it apart once. You up for the challenge John?

Trades yes, but I don't think I'd sell unless it was a price I couldn't refuse since I do want to use it on the SX. (200x front)

I gotta learn to get it running first

Sure ,,, I bought a km head off of our buddy in Canada trying to show my wife how the "buy it now" thing works. I have it all apart to take to my artist person to re-do the lettering into M.P.H. ,,, kinda figure it as a winter project for her.
( the trip meter will be forever in kpm )
they are not hard to dis-assemble once you screw one up ( that is what they call experianced). :)

Are those hondaline speeedo/odo/tripmeters hard to come by? One of my r's came with one on it that lights up at night when the headlight is on in a green color. I think it's super cool and am looking for another. From the sound of it they are not too common? Mine has the gear drive system and works great. Yours looks awesome, does it light up too?

HOLY Smokes man, your liquid R has a speedo??? Want to sell me the whole kit???? :D
They all light up, the red faced kind are still available (Service Honda $50) but the Honda ATC ones are rare, esspecially ones in good condition. The one on the 250es in almost mint condition, but has 6000 miles on it... The one I have on the 350x is pretty good, not as nice as the Big Red one but it looks pretty nice.
OK John that sounds great! I'll probably send it out next week when the new one comes in

I really like having it, If times get tight I will contact you first. Does the 350x honda atc odo trip meter fit the 85/86 250r's? The guy I bought them from has a SANO 86 350x with one on it that looks just like mine. I am working on buying this trike from him also but he is reluctant to sell right now. If I get it I'd like to swithch it to my other r. That's cool you have these on your trikes, I thought I was the only one.

Yes... basically the same..... you get a lil wiring harness with the 250R kit. (your :welcome: hehehhehe) And maybe a larger diameter clamp for the cable on the lower fork?? I'm pretty sure the cable is the same... my 2 350X speedo cables both say "HA2" on the cables...
However... I don't think you'll ever see another Hondaline speedo setup like this .... hahahahhaa :D

I've been thinking about the 350x speedo/tach dash setup... I think it would look cool if it was in the center and kinda angled toward the driver... :naughty: . Don't know if the cable would be long enough to go behind the headlight though... hmmm

You answered your own question... plus, I like it over to the right... gives me an unobstructed view to the left -- my dominate eye. ;) Plus it looks cool from the front too....

That's it. Thanks for the info on the kit. I am going to buy the 350 x from him hopefully in late september with the speedo on it. :w00t:

I dunno about you guys... but I like the Red Faced speedo alot more on the 250r.... looks way more "Old School" :w00t:
Got the wiring all done also... much simpler to wire then the 350x kit!
Now just gota get a fairing, rubber footpeg covers, what else did Hondaline make for the 83-84 R's? gotta find a DG water cooled head too! :naughty:

How does a speedo work? Is there a censor on the forks or something? How do to set the tripmeter? Sorry for stealing the thread I'm just curious.

Go back to my first post and one of the pics shows a little drive peice down on the axle... that turns with the hub and turns a cable which connects to the display which then tells you how fast you're going. :D
Reset the tripmeter with the little knob on the left side.

Hmmmm.... wonder who said that first quote I bolded..... :welcome:
Oh... lets see.... other Hondaline stuff for a 83-84R.... 300R kit?? Pro Wedge tires? Lens grille? Heck... here's some scans for you! Should keep you busy.... Hmmmm.... seems like another company had the water jacket for the air coolers.... DG was known for their gold Radial cooling head.... like Holic has and seems like the Freaksfix too?
Looks good man!

Should keep me busy for a while indeed!
Lets see... I'll need rubber footpegs, a fairing, and a body cover (that one's a long shot)!
Allready have the Blue Duros and lens grille... and of course the speedo.
I think the water cooled head will be better for this machine... save the 300r kit for a future 81-82 R project! Gotta get some nice fork guards too.

You got a chrome lens grille? If not... I know where one is at. I had a set of the footpeg covers here, but if I ever run across them, they are already taken/called for. I think I might have got my sets mixed up when I sent 2 sets of them to Swiney.... I don't know.... I thought I had 4 sets, but maybe I only had 3 sets. I don't know... I know I sent 2 to Swinehart, and have a set on my 350X..... can't find another set.... maybe I hadn't mounted the ones on my 350X yet when I thought I had 3 sets here....
Anyhow..... I have a set 97% original tread Pro Wedge II tires here.... looking at the catalog quick, sayd PW I for 82R, PWII for 83-84R.... However, think that's cause my PW II's say "Not for use with 2-piece rim".... luckily, I have aftermarket gold 4-130mm rims for my winter ice racer 300R project, so I can safely mount the PWII's on my 82R!

I gotta black grille... I'd have to check with dad, but would you trade the chrome one straight up for my black one? I still got all the bags for it + instuctions... etc.
