View Full Version : 86 sx have front brakes?
my 1986 250sx doesnt have fornt brakes, this wouldnt bother me cept that i found a brochure for an 86 250sx and it said front and rear brakes. could the past owner have put a different front end on it? or was it pissible to order an sx without front brakes? it doesnt look like this thing ever had um. also the steering is a little funky the forks bump into the gas tank a little.

Check your front tire and tell us the size of it !.. should be 22 - 11 - 8 if i remember right. You might have a 200 X front end on it.. and if you do it would have mounts for a disk brake setup.. much better. the tire on the X was skinnier.
front is 23-8-11 rear wheels r 22-11-9

Any luck with the picture ?
I'm stuck at work right now so i can't run to the garage to measure my forks for you.. another 3 hrs and 38 minutes .. not that i'm counting !! lol...
Look at " Nouseforaname90" 's thread about polishing front forks on his SX and compare the right side fork with the big knub on it for the brake drum.. if yours does not have one.. you have X forks.
http://bikepics.com/pictures/415077/ heres a close up pic of mine. supposedly an 86 250sx.
http://www.supload.com/free/pictures/Si.jpg/ heres nouseforaname's sx i can see a big difference already. but do * think mine is a 200x or somthing else??
heres a pic of his in pieces. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=38926&highlight=polish+front+forks

you have a 200 X front on that thing. notice the 2 holes on the right fork.. that's the brake caliper mounting holes.
the studs that stick out on the hub are for the rotor portion.
post a pic of the whole bike man..
i have a link in my signature to my bikepics account thing i have a pic there of the entire bic.

ok.. you have an SX with 200 X front forks !! good deal man .. that's awsome ! You can put disk brakes on the front if you want !.. cool.
Re-route that cable that is touching the header pipe before it melts thru and ruins your cable....

As high as the front end is sitting it might be a 350X front end on there. Not sure but all the 200X front ends I have seen sit pretty much level (Stock). Anyone know how to tell the difference between the 200X & 350X forks?

This might explain the tendency to wheelie !! lol...
lol and my fender not fitting :(
but performance wise this is a good thing right?
thats not a cable its a breather tube that i dont kno where goes.
ok im kinda worried now. i have a 200x or 350x front end. and this high flow cobra muffler how am i supposed to kno wat other mods r on this trike? im scared im gona buy a part to replace somthing and itll be the wrong one cuz i have somthing different. :(

Just look at the part you bought, and the part you replaced. If they look the same, then you're ok. But if its a piston or something like that, that method wont work. lol
hehe if it comes to the point that i need a piston i dont think ill have enuf money to pay for the parts and i doubt i could get my dad to pay for it. we'd prolly go to this near by atv scrap yard and find an engine. itd be cheaper and prolly a better result if we pick a bigger engine.

It will probably take some fabrication work to get it to fit in there right though.. depending on what kind of an engine you pick.
lol fabrication. thats gota be my favorite word. also the most often used word in my garage.http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.com/showownerpic.ten-*-6769-n-582237-pos-3-album-44448 thats the engine me n my dad rebuild last month.
heres another fine example of fabrication. http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.com/showownerpic.ten-*-7336-n-302074-pos-1
this truck was born a standard cab 2x4 with a 302 ford V8 now its 4 door 4x4 with a 7.3l diesel. my sisters truck
its a shame i dont have any pics of our tractors they have plenty of fabrications :twisted
in a few years wen i get a truck i plan on putting a navistar DT 570c.i. in it if i can afford one.
if we had an extra one my dad would put a little 302c.i. in my trike

The links wont work. But as long as you have the fabrication knowledge and experience, it'll be no prob..

OK dude, looks like a 200x front end to me. Actually I know it is by looking at the bottom of the forks. I got a front fender you can have that will fit nicely. (White though)

Holy crap I think I'm wrong... looks more like an 83-84 250r front end now that I look at it again. Or at least the forks do. lol I dunno, if it was light out I'd go look in the garage but it's not so... I'll report back in the morning if I remember (lol).
really? wat will it cost me? color dont matter wen i get a new tank ill just get a white one so it looks like its supposed to be that way :)
would better pics help? if i get some batteries tomrow i can get better pics just tell me wat ya need to get a good look at.

Sending a PM as I post this message.......... It don't matter if it is 200x or 250r front end the fender will work on both.
I don't really need better pics just need to go see my own trikes to compare...

glad to have another ford guy here!, junk yards are nice, but in my experiance, the guy will try to screw you over, theres great deals but the guys are pretty sly, and dont care if they send you off with a peice of crap that suposedly needs 'carb cleaning' or some other crappy excuse for the engine not even turning...
hehe ill make sure i dont get jipped too bad :) or better yet ill put an escort engine in it:) id rather have a ford than honda any day. EDIT: no offense to honda!!

Yup... I was right, looks like it's an 83-84 250r front end. That's good since the 250r forks had more travel then the 200x!!
So just PM me whenever you would like that fender.

i dont think thats a 200x front. due to 2 things. 2 the front of the frame makes it look liek 250r or 350x forks due to the anfles. makes itlook liek a chopper. and the other thing is i tought the 200x was leadign axle instead of trailing axle.

The brake is on the right... means it's not liquid R or 350x. Therefore it can only be 200x or air cooled R. Notice how the forks continue to go down after they pass the axle, they are too long to be 200x forks, therefore the only thing they can be are 83-84 250r forks (and they look just like em')
350x was the only Honda sport trike with a leading axle BTW.
