Tri-z questions

Im thinking about buying a 85 tri-z. What i want to know is how are the tri-z's? What breaks on them and how are they on maintenance and performance wise?

Well ya see the gas tank is in the back under the seat (friend has one) Sooo the ride changes dramaticaly from full to empty tank...full, ya can't slide the assend out in corners, if you try she will stand up n go straight!!! it would b a wheelie machine lol

I personally think Tri-Zs are awesome machines :naughty: . And the whole gas tank thing, barely noticable to me. They have awesome suspension, the motor is bullerproof(20 years same piston on mine :eek: ), and lots of low end grunt too. And plus, I think they look awesome(the 86's)The 85's are a little worse than 86's but still are good. Heres a few link to help ya out-

Downfall, heard of the water impeller failing. Banshee swap in I beleive so its no biggy. And also, pipes are hard to come by. The DG pipes you can buy for brand new so its no problem, the real race ones like LRD are like trying to a Minime in a crowd of 7 ft tall people.lol Hard but can be found.

I enjoyed mine.
Put a "fatty" pipe (DG) and a V-Force reed cage on it and it'll crawl through the woods like a 4 stroker and still rip like a 2 stroke.
Super versatile and reliable machine that rides like a Cadillac.

Downfall, heard of the water impeller failing. Banshee swap in I beleive so its no biggy.

Impeller failure is common, but thats about the only weak link. It is NOT interchangebale with the Banshee. Only a couple other older YZ's. The Seal IS interchangeable with the Banhsee, but these seals tend to last a lot longer than the impellers. Yamaha shocks (rear) in general have a short life span compared to others, and there arent many out there with a TriZ shock still on them.

You wont be dissapointed, as far as sliding it does that fine, just takes some time gettin used too. I need to find a pic of me hittin the powerband on the asphualt it had dirt chunks in it, it just pitched sideways without me doin anything. You take care of it, it takes care of you.
