Well, I'm needing some ideas of what to do. I love my 86 R, but I'm tired of dealing with mixing gas and having to fly up hills at 100mph. I like the idea of being able to creep up hills and not have to mix gas and oil with the 350x. The question is, do I keep the R and invest in a 200x for beating on, or do I sell the R and buy a 350x? If I sell my R, how much do you think I will get for it?

I'd love your R but I couldn't afford it :x . If I was you i'd look around for a beater 200x and keep the R.

Let us know how much if you do decide to sell it, but i think Dynofox has the right idea.

I'm kinda leaning that way. I have a 310 big bore kit and a set of mugen aftermarket front forks for it if I keep it.

No way, Kim. Sell a 250R like that for ANY 4 stroke? No way!

If youre sick of mixing gas....maybe you should look into being the only person to have an oil injected 250R. hehe

Mixing gas is part of life son! Just like taxes and death, I will be a mixing mo-fo till I am pushing up daisys

 Mixing gas is the last thing I would be worrying about when Im goin through the gears. Its a small task but you will be rewarded in the end. In my opinion, I think you're NUTS to sell your R. That thing is BEAUTIFUL. But, if you have to sell it, as soon as you do, you will find a new riding buddy with an R and you'll be kicking your arse for it. I say, save up for an X (200 or 350)

I've faced the same delimma as you. I want a pluggin' around on/creek riding/mud boggin' machine, but I want something with balls, too.
I will build my R into a earth eating machine from Hell, and buy me a 200X or a YTM225 to ease around on. Who says one machine is all we need, when we know deep down that one machine can't possibly fill the bill and make us totally happy.

350's have just as much balls as a 250r if ya know how to ride

I reckon one on NOS would! :D
Seroiusly, The 350X would be my first choice of if I wanted a ballsey 4-stroke machine, but since I have an R( better covering the need for such a 'wheeler), I would choose a smaller displacement 4-stroke to play with. If I were to want a mean machine only, I'd pick an R, Tecate, or a Z. If I wanted a mean 4-stroke, it'd be the 350X hands down. I loved the one I had.
I just wouldn't putt around the creek all day on it.
:)
I'd be too eager to stretch it's legs to ease around on it.

i would say take it and sell your 250 and pick up a decent x and r (you could probably afford both) i love my x i just put gas in it straight fromt the gas station and go my bike is a 2 stroke its a big hassle to mix it in my oppinion and as soon as i have the money i'm selling my bike and getting a crf 250 or 450 and rember the way things are going you wont be able to ride a 2 stroke in the future around here (centeral cali) you could get around 2600-2800 with paddles maby 1600 w/o

 WOW!! I had no idea that paddle tires were worth that much.

I think if you sell it your gonna regret it later...R's are definitly getting harder to come by. Hang on to it and seek out a decent 350X and have the best of both worlds.

Theres no possible way people are that ignorant, my boy, sorry.

The price isnt going to decrease with or without paddles. You can buy a great pair of paddles for under $70....not a $1000.

I didnt even say a price (its his choice what he sells it for...but we dont want ya sellin, Kim ;) ) but with that 310 Kit....the engine ALONE is worth easily $1500. That 310 kit adds an easy 400-500 to the engine's worth alone, the bikes in general selling whole.

i'm not saying that paddles are worth 1000 i'm just telling you what the trieks around me are selling for with and without paddles and there is a huge diffrence between the 2 here

that is a real fine looking trike kimmer.
if you do get something else, i'm thinking with your eye for detail, it's gonna turn out to be another sharp looker.

Hey I would keep your R and buy yourself a 350x motor and do some conversions so you could fit the 350x motor in the frame. you would have the ride of a 250r with 4-stroke reliability

Peace out

uuuhhhhhhhhh...That would be pretty much the same as selling the whole R and getting a whole X. LMAO

I considered selling my 250R when I was starting the business and now I look at it and look at all the hours and dollars that I put into it. I could have sold it for the buck, but people like us that build 250R's from the frame up and personalize every piece of it do it because we love the bike. I like to look at mine as much as I like to ride it. Just the stance they have when they are sitting still in the garage.. I have not rode any bike that gives me the feeling I get around a loud smoaking 2 stroke. I may be getting another cruiser bike, because the 250R is not the best bike for a Saturday night cruise. You can't really take the girl for a ride. You can't drink a beer and work the clutch. Kick start sometimes sucks. Mixing gas. Buying oil when you need it......But that bike shines on Sunday afternoon when the Banshees Boys and Raptor Riders get outrun by a brand new looking shiny 18 year old 3 wheeler. Half of them have never seen one the other half just want to see closer. THAT BIKE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY GARAGE.....AND YOURS SHOULD STAY IN YOUR GARAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......Mike

Thanks for the pep talk mike. I needed to be reminded what importance that trike holds. We definitly put alot of hours into our machines. Thats why mine is staying with me.

also look at it like the people that rebuild old cars most of them dont do it for the money they do it for the fun of it. i think you should be like that but only with atc's ya you wont make money but your putting some exclent trikes out in the world again to keep up with those quads. i would love to get a 350 X built like that R is built. rember do you love your R or do you love fixing stuff up

I like to fix stuff up too. I'd like to start redoing trikes for people on the side this summer. It pretty cool to take a ragged out machine and turn it into a real head turner. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do another one this year.
