Well it seems like my 250r is getting harder to shift into gear. when im stopped its realy tricky to put in nuetral. But when im riding around and i go to shift into second sometimes it pops into nuetral and then i accedently rev the piss out of if.

The only other thing i have as a refference is my 250sx witch feals totaly different when i shift. But i think it feels different because its a automatic?

What could be cause my bike to feel like its harder to shift. Thanks

oh and on the sx sometimes when i shift into a lower gear it doesnt catch right away it kinda skipps and clunks a little and then pops in

The R's are infamous for wearing clutch baskets. Until I replaced mine with a billeted aftermarket one, I was filing out grooves a couple times a year, or replacing them as needed.

Your shifting problem is caused by grooves in the clutch basket. When you pull the clutch it is not releasing all the way. Your bike will shift fine on flat ground while you are rolling, but if you are coasting hill with the clutch pulled, or sitting still and trying to shift, its a royal pain, and finding neutral is near impossible. Try finding neutral while you are still rolling, before you stop, and it will be easy.

The grooves can be filed out of the clutch basket once or twice, but after that the basket needs replaced. My 250R basket came from Janssen Racing at 920-766-3411 or www.janssenracing.com.

So has anyone ever filed the grooves out themselves? Where does it start to grove at? how did you file them down? and what did you use. thanks for the help anyone can give me

Youll see the grooves in the basket for the tabs on the clutch disks. Just file them flat with a regular flat file.

The symptoms I described are common to most machines with a manual wet clutch. Its the first place I would look.

Try using Bel-Ray Gear Saver transmission oil. Makes a world of difference. I am not saying that your clutch basket is good or bad but this is a very inexpensive start to fixing your problem. My 85 acted just as yours is until I made the switch. GREG
